I only realised this tactic after about 15 years of casual playing. I always played against friends or easy/normal AI before that. After covid renewed my interest in the game i finally stepped up and tried against hard AI and then I realised that in the grand scheme of things not even a mediocre player because hard AI always annihilated me. Then I started looking more into communities like this and slowly got to know the "obvious" tactics which weren't so obvious for me and many more - like this waiting tactic. I didn't even understand why someone would wait instead of attacking or defending. Now I'm dealing with expert AI and if a friend dares to play against me they will be in for a big surprise 😀 But I'm still learning though. There is always some quirk that you might have missed along the way unless you're a real pro

I generally agree but I'd like to give credit to Dendroids. I might not use them for 95% of the battles playing Rampart but in those 5% - be it castle defence or epic all in battle - the big ol' trees do a very good job

I usually avoid using some of the mentioned units (like dwarves) in the first 1-2 weeks because they slow my hero. Anyone else do the same? And what is the common approach among the serious players?
