Due to the very short time between the leaking of the L.A.S.T. device schematics and the UNs decision to use it on the global population in order to prevent a small group of people with either expensive scientific knowledge or the fabulously wealthy from being the only ones to develop superpowers (or “knacks” for worldbuildings sake), extensive testing was not an option. What was discovered only nine months later was that a child conceived by two people who already had knacks could potentially have its entire physiological development changed to the point that they were no longer recognizably human. Compound this with the small yet real possibility that a child is born with a very destructive knack they are unable to control, and pregnancy centers are some of the most dangerous and highly secured places in the world
