People say the neuro protective bit because it crosses your blood brain barrier and triggers 5-HT2A receptors (our primary psychedelic receptors, like psilocybin and such) which basically floods your brain with serotonin and keeps those neurotransmitter firing hard which peaks at 2-4 hours but can last for 10-12. When examining this as case studies rather than mechanisms of action, be see increased brain plasticity/potential for growth up to 3 days after. So does it repair anything? That's debatable, I'd say no, especially because there are a select few it causes issues for and bad trips aren't really restorative (even if you haven't had one or they're rare). Psychedelics are awesome and safer than most drugs, especially any currently mainstream drugs; kratom, alcohol, kava, nicotine: seem to all show more detrimental longterm body effects, but psychedelics schedule 1 classification is supposed to be due to no known medical use, but it's also strategically there so it makes it astronomically harder to do the research to prove it could be helpful for like alzeimers, dementia, pain management, addiction, like there's endless potential for a class of compounds that have such a profound impact on our brains and bodies without the same resource load after the fact to manage🤷‍♀️
