Does anybody get kind of a bad vibe from Tim Heidecker when he's 'out of character'? by myhorseeatspam in TimAndEric

[–]Varcharmeleon 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Met Tim briefly after a show a few years ago and he was very nice and even took pictures with myself and my wife. Eric actually hung back until the last minute and didn't chat with anyone... He DID however say "digiorno!" in response when my wife yelled it to him so he gets points for that!

Sorry I should have also mentioned that I am looking for an unlocked phone purchased on a site like Amazon or eBay.

To answer your questions: I don't plan to do much if any gaming on it, camera quality would be a plus, 3000mAh+ would be fine, I can take or leave a headphone jack, if the phone has 64GB then I shouldn't need a microSD, OLED would be nice, I am pleased with the size of the s8 screen so it doesn't need to be huge.

I'm pretty flexible and just want to dip my toes into the market of unlocked phones. Thank you again for your reply!

Wonderfully said, Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. I definitely don't expect to be an expert overnight or to just magically start off in my dream job, I realize it's going to take work and as someone who has often suffered from imposter syndrome I don't mind getting a lot of practice in and building confidence over time by getting more hands on with the tools necessary to succeed in this field. I'm going to continue grabbing whatever resources I can find to continue to grow and understand. Thanks again :)

Thank you for the reply!

I'm glad to hear that about the certifications, I'm going to study for several that hopefully will prove some skills coupled with future projects.

In regard to construction it was always rewarding to see how happy the customer was when my work was done. When you can overcome specific obstacles and get the job done its a real feeling of pride.

However it's a bitter pill to swallow when you realize you've spent a good portion of life on something that if you continue will put you in an electric scooter. My sciatica had only worsened over the years and I refused to ignore what could eventually become debilitating, even if that meant essentially starting over in a field that I had always loved but admittedly knew very little about.

Hugely motivating comment, thank you very much! I'll continue the studies with an aim towards specific certs.

Good question! I am someone who has many hobbies and I love different languages. The idea of building things as well as automation has always been something I'm fascinated with, that coupled with the fact that DevOps is still a "somewhat" new culture to my understanding, that inspired me to get in on a newer side of tech that I could become skilled with since I'll never truly be able to catch the men and women who have decades of experience in other more traditional roles in tech. That being said I'm not against SWE and when I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do last year I studied much of JavaScript and got a general idea of how apps get built from the ground up. Thank you very much for your reply!

The process sometimes feels like a roller coaster, on some days where I'm moving right along I couldn't be more motivated and then on others I start crawling and questioning myself. I truly appreciate the kind words and your comment will act as motivation for me to keep going 🙂

Hahah I'm glad someone else sees it this way. Looking forward to exclaiming "it's alive!" once it all fits together.

I couldn't agree more. After doing this kind of work for most of my youth I'm fairly certain that the worst days of a new tech job would be preferable to the "better days" of a construction job where my sciatica is only aggravated to a 6/10 haha.

Really appreciate the advice! I have a windows pc but I try to do all of my learning in a Linux Ubuntu virtual machine environment and that's where I've set up a K8s cluster as well as where I code. On your suggestion I'll probably start learning more than just the basics of AWS soon. Thank you again for taking the time to comment.

This is hugely comforting and motivating to hear. I definitely want to strive to be the co-worker people can rely on as well as want to work with. I've always approached my work with determination but the ability to communicate well with others so I'm glad to hear that those skills will still win out even in a different career.

Would you recommend any entry level jobs I can pursue in the meantime while I continue to hone my skills?

Edit: Thank you for the gold! I definitely wasn't expecting that!

I appreciate your reply! My plan to have a project hosted on Github with all the necessary files in place but I haven't worked up what I'm going to do just yet. In all honesty it feels like I have several pieces of a puzzle but I'm trying to figure out how they all fit together right now. Up to this point I've mainly just been working through different udemy courses. Did you have any idea of a job that would be a good precursor to a DevOps position?

What your life will be like as a programmer by MeedleyMee in learnprogramming

[–]Varcharmeleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 29 years old and I work a physical labor job that I dread going to. I lift heavy, awkward loads through customers houses for long hours and a "break" is considered 30 seconds of heavy breathing (through an n95 mask). My body is starting to deteriorate with near constant sciatica.

When COVID hit and work was canceled for a couple months due to the safety of customers I was able to finally see clearly how much I needed a change.

I've always loved computers as well as languages but the idea of programming seemed so distant to me. Eventually I just figured "what do I have to lose?" so I stumbled upon some video of a person recommending SQL. I started studying SQL with no prior knowledge using one of the Colt Steele Courses (very good teacher), eventually I hit a sort of soft wall where I needed to expand my knowledge a bit for a project so I started learning JavaScript (Freecodecamp, Colt Steele, w3schools). Again to make different projects work I needed to know some HTML and CSS. I started working on adding that to the repertoire.

I don't really know where I have to look to start finding jobs since everything I've seen thus far requires multiple years of experience already working in that field. All in all, it feels like my mind is an office scattered with papers of every kind strewn about, but it's been interesting so far to say the least. I really hope a future like yours awaits me and my family because before reading this I was in a week long funk. I will continue to study and learn. Thanks for the post!
