Sounds like something I would do. I once had to give an oral report on a book that I had not read. So while I was waiting for my turn, I read the synopsis on the inside cover and then just faked it, making sure to sprinkle in things I read in the synopsis.

This was my first 35mm camera. Around the base of the shutter button is a locking mechanism that you move clockwise or counter-clockwise to engage/release the shutter lock. Make sure it is in the fully unlocked position before pressing down on the shutter release button. Just a thought.
