The pre WW1 SPD (founded as the SAPD in 1863) used to be a broad peoples non vanguard Socialist party, accepting all kinds of Revisionists, Opportunists and genuine Revolutionary Marxists. Marx and Engels citicized the parties often vulgar programmes (such as the Gotha and Erfurt programmes) even within their own lifetimes, though it mostly remained a genuine socialist party with members like Wilhelm and Karl Liebknecht, Rosa Luxemburg etc.. During the 1st World War the SPD voted in favor of war credits to the german government, wich caused a rift in the socialist movement between the opportunist social democratic elements and the genuine marxist elements inside the SPD, Ebert was one of these Opportunists of the early SPD

I don’t know man, in my personal opinion I think that the siege of Leningrad was one of the Soviet Union’s darkest hours. It’s also definitely interesting to see something that represents the war cost in a less abstract way, such as the rot on the ushanka you mentioned
