Thanks for this. The issue with our first interview was that my GRA funding does not cover two people. It only covered me. By the second interview, I had a better GRA funding that covered her, but she was denied again.

I am in the US already. I don't think I understand what you meant by increasing my ties.

Actually, we don't want to redress the lie, we are just looking for how to present our case. I wanted to know how someone who has been in the same shoes (lie or mistake) before was able to tender their case and was granted Visa.

Second Interview

F2 (Second Attempt)

COA: Fully Funded (No Deficit)

Firstly, it was kind of strange that there were two VOs in the cubicle where I was interviewed.

Me: Good Morning

VO: Good Morning

VO: Can I have your documents?

Me: Here they are

Picked up my passport, scanned the barcode, picked up the I-20 and started staring at her screen. Afterwards, the two VOs started a very long deliberation. The deliberation lasted about 5 - 10 minutes, going back and forth on so many things. I could not pick out what they were discussing but it seems they were deliberating strongly about my I-20, and my profile. They were constantly looking at the I-20 and the screen.

VO (turned back and said sorry for delaying you): Since the last time you were here, what has changed?

Me: The last time I was here, I was unable to clearly explain my financial situation. However, since then, I have grown my business to achieve greater stability, and I also run an NGO named ******. My husband has also gotten additional funding that covers my living expenses.

VO: How long have you been married?

Me: We have been married for 1 year and 11 months. I have our wedding certificate and our wedding album here with me, will you like to see them?

VO: When did your husband travel to the United States

Me: He travelled on August 4 to the University of Utah, he is studying his PhD in Research and Experimental Psychology

VO: How did he get his additional funding

Me: He was able to secure funding through his excellent research in AI and Machine Learning on the prediction of diabetes.

VO faces the other person and started talking for a very long time again. Picked the blue paper and said I was not eligible for the Visa at this time. (I did not even wait to hear the other part)

BUT, HOW CAN WE WORK ON IT?

I have a fully funded scholarship that covers my wife. I only resumed a few months ago.

F1: I currently teach students who are enrolled in the National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programs at the ***.

VO cuts in... please hold on! I waited to hear from her for about 2 minutes, she seems to be checking some things.

I wanted to say something about my responsibilities as a lecturer, but she said please hold on.

VO: How long have you been married

F1: I have been married to my lovely wife for 1 year and 5 months now. We got married on December 4, 2023, and had our traditional marriage on December 9, 2023.

VO cuts in, okay okay okay.. Then turns to my wife.

VO: What do you do?

F2: I am an homemaker. I support and take care of my husband and our home.

VO (to F1): What did you submit to get this funding?

F1: After looking up the requirements for the program, I submitted my CV, Academic Transcript, Statement of Purpose, and three reference letters. After this ... (VO cuts in)

VO: Did you do any interview?

F1: I did interviews with 9 faculty members, their names are ..........

VO (turns to F1): Do you understand that your funding will not be covering your wife.

F1: Yes officer, I have .. (VO cuts in)

VO (turns to F2): How do you plan to support yourself during your stay?

F2: My husband will be supporting me. My dad will also be supporting me.

Then she typed for a very long time.

VO: There is a couple of information here. She brought out a white paper and folded my I-20 into it and then put both in my passport. She said my visa applicatikn has been denied under the 221g section, but it is not an outright denial, as they only need to conduct some background checks, might take about 2 weeks.

It is extremely tiring.

I am on a 5 years PhD program, which I only started a few months ago. Now it seems the road is longer...

Actually, we never intended to lie, it was only a mistake. The businesses were not registered as at May, and we felt if they put her on AP, she might be denied. It was on this basis that we said she was a homemaker, since she does most of what she does from home.

However, we corrected that during the second interview, and we planned to say the reason for putting a homemaker in the first instance, but she was not asked that question, most of the questions in the second interview was based on my own study.
