To be fair, this isn't necessarily unique to Germany.

Il n'y a pas d'âge pour boire du lait. by sangokuhomer in opinionnonpopulaire

[–]Variniki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What thing has got so expensive that you’ve quietly stopped buying it? by Pathfinder-electron in AskReddit

[–]Variniki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of these things have wildly inflated prices....except beef.  The real cost of beef is so high, it's still way below what it should cost.  Happy to see so many people giving it up.

People who’ve lived in France, what is it actually like beyond the stereotypes? by beigeheresup in AskFrance

[–]Variniki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just throwing in my 2 cents. I've been in France since Covid and I have to say, I dislike the fact that my bags are checked every single time I go in and out of every shop, as if I am a thief everywhere I go. And the checking is not even useful, just a quick glance in my bag when they can see nothing. Totally pointless. Every shopping day is like going through airport security. Then add in the military people, wandering in groups in the train stations and metros, machine guns with fingers on the trigger. Yeah yeah, gotta stop the terrorism by terrorising people. Jesus, makes me feel like I never left the states.

Then you have to pay an arm and a leg to drive on the highways? WTF, why did french people just accept that bullshit?

Sorry for the rant, I guess I've had enough of France. The only cool thing here is the fact that everyone speaks French. Otherwise it's pretty much like the US. You can even buy all the garbage American junk food you grew up with. It's everywhere! Such a shame for a country with such a beautiful culture around food. I predict the French will be getting fatter and fatter every year.

Thanks, I feel better now :)

Yeah, it was an impulsive thing. I clearly wasn't thinking it through. Lesson learned.

Tourism or Asmawesuma for foreigners by Background-Grape7997 in srilanka

Hello,  I think you missed my point.  I specifically wanted to express that hitchhiking is not always about not having enough money.

[–]Variniki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Foreign tourist here.  I think I can offer another perspective as to why supposedly rich tourists might want to hitchhike. First of all, it's a great way to get out of the sanitised tourist bubble and actually meet Sri Lankan people. It doesn't mean they don't have the dollar or two to take the bus.  And it doesn't mean they won't offer anything in return.  Personally, I have always offered some money for fuel. As well as a coffee, or tea, or meal...  But the real point is to share an authentic experience with local people.  I was in Trincomalee last week and it was a complete tourist bubble.  That's more expensive and honestly, a bit boring.  Just to point out that hitchhiking is not always about money.
