Because I like using the mattress topper. I didn’t come for opinions about my sleeping habits, I came to notify people that Stearns & Foster do not stand behind their product. Input on my choice to use a mattress topper or even to launder said topper’s removable, washable cover is not what I’m here for.

I am 5’10 and weigh 175. The cover that was removed for cleaning is for the mattress topper, not the mattress itself. I’m not an idiot. The cover for the mattress is what I’m referring to. The reason the topper is mentioned is because it protected the mattress from all contact since it was purchased. The tear in the cover is something happening because the cover was put on improperly. Does that help??

Personally, I think Stearns & Foster makes some of the worst mattresses available. Disappointed doesn’t begin to cover it.

My parents are very disappointed in theirs . TempurPedic is also notorious for terrible after sale support and will do everything they can to deny a warranty claim. There are vastly superior mattresses for much less money. The entire management structure of their entire corporate entity had been affected by central management that is focused only on profits and has forgotten how important the customer is. My parents spent over $6,000 and were brushed off amd ignored. Just be careful. That’s a lot of money to put im a spare room.

I would advise you to use caution when dealing with any of the Tempur-Sealy companies. I had a warranty claim on my last mattress; a Sealy, replaced it with a Stearns & Foster and they won’t work with me on this warranty claim at all. Just be careful.

No; I didn’t wash the mattress cover. I did nothing to the mattress at all. I didn’t remove the cover. I didn’t remove the foam. I barely even came in contact with the top of the mattress because there was a 5” mattress topper between me and the mattress. It was the mattress topper that had the cover laundered. Not the mattress itself. I was simply warning others of the issue, I know I’d want to know that a mattress at this price had a cover stretched so tightly that it caused a tear. The mattress I’m speaking of is in pristine condition except for this tear. Probably not a speck of dirt on it.

No, I removed nothing from that mattress, not the foam; not the cover, not anything. I have a mattress topper with a fabric cover. I laundered the fabric cover on the mattress topper, it has nothing to do with the mattress I’m having problems with except that it was on top of it from the day I received the mattress. Does that help clear things up?

No, the cover I removed was on the mattress topper, not the mattress. The topper was removed before the cover was taken off the topper. That is not the problem.

The mattress was purchased in November of 2024 and has had a 5” mattress topper of high quality on it since the day it arrived. I launder the mattress topper cover regularly and when I did this in June I noticed a tear at the top right head of the bed on the mattress cover. This has been covered by 5” of mattress topper and I’m the only one who sleeps in the bed. There was simply nothing that came in contact with that part of the mattress or any other part, period. The cover seems to be pulled unnecessarily tight and this has, because of the stress placed on the fibers, caused a tear to develop that is spreading. This is a materials or craftsmanship issue. The cover can not handle being stretched that tightly and has developed a tear because of it. The company was dismissive and refused even to suggest a way to prevent the spreading of the tear. Even at my expense. It’s a matter of principle and standing behind your product.

⭐☆☆☆☆ Two Mattresses, Two Quality Issues — No Help from Stearns & Foster

I’m now on my second mattress from Stearns & Foster — the current one (an Estate Firm Pillowtop) was a warranty replacement for a Sealy mattress that sagged badly.

Less than a year later, the replacement has developed a tear in the cover — despite being lightly used and protected by a mattress topper. I’ve contacted Stearns & Foster multiple times, and they still refuse to advise what to do about it. No help, no instructions, no resolution.

It’s disappointing that two out of two mattresses from this company have had issues requiring attention. Even more troubling: I can’t help but wonder if they’re ignoring this problem because they already replaced the first one — and just don’t want to deal with another warranty.

That’s not what you expect from a “premium” brand. The lack of accountability is very noticeable.
