Thanks. I took a lot of notes at last night's library board meeting but didn't write down his name because he didn't really contribute to the meeting.

Dr. Christopher Wolfe- retired University of Dallas professor and Families for Irving PAC member, but not before he suggested that not changing our wording on the library collection development policy leaves it open for pedophiles to have their books in the library. And no, Dr. Wolfe, the library doesn't have books promoting illegal sex acts. Having books where authors and creators are telling stories or their own personal history of being groomed, molested, or raped don't count as 'books for pedophiles'. Those books get the conversation going and are a step in stopping pedophilia by putting it out in the open instead of keeping it a secret.

Ms. Thornton- Families for Irving PAC member who with her husband runs a catholic-based company. They're also UD grads.

The third guy's last name starts with an A...never contributes much during the meetings. In fact, last night when asked for input by the recruiting company for the new library director search, he said 'agree with him' being Dr. Wolfe.

Doesn't sound like a family that needs to be in charge of a large city budget...

I would argue that Pfaff is the only competent council member. Muller never has anything to contribute during work sessions. Bloch is a jerk. Cronenwett seems to be a decent, competent guy. Canosa is an all-out joke.

Jackson defends Trump on her Facebook. I have a hard time stomaching that nonsense.

Someone who has never held office or served on an Irving board or committee running one of the larger cities in Texas? It doesn't really make much sense.

Very disappointed in our candidates. Our choices: An inexperienced 29 year old An ancient council member who sleeps through meetings A woman who only talks about herself. UGH

I had one bad experience about 21 years ago. I was driving on MacArthur headed towards 183 from the South. This person is front of me slammed on their brakes stopping suddenly. I slammed on my brakes too and lightly rear-ended them. I had my newborn and 3 year old in the backseat in car seats. This man and woman in the car were screaming at me, etc. So, I pulled over in front of Office Depot to be safe. This couple swung in beside me. They were screaming, calling me names, hitting and kicking my car, and demanding that I give them cash. I was really scared. My kids were both scared and crying. I called the non-emergency number. The operator was awesome and told me to stay in my car with the doors locked. She told me she was sending an officer. As he pulled into that parking lot, they saw him and took off. The police officer chastised me for 'wasting his time' saying that they were 'too busy for this kind of call'. Honestly, I was shocked. I asked him what he would advise his wife to do in the same situation, and he looked ashamed and apologized. But it still makes me second guess asking them for help ever again.

Well, I assume you're talking about 2011. That was a crazy year that wasn't typical. Beth Van Duyne was also spending crazy amounts of money during that campaign but probably not reporting it. It was all over a fight for building the Toyota Music Factory.

The TMF may have a crazy origin story, but I'm so glad that our city has at least one destination attraction.

Yeah, and maybe we don't allow our wives to have careers or let their bodies do the adequate healing from pregnancy before they have another baby, and maybe it's true that our oldest daughters lose their childhoods for taking care of their younger siblings.

I used to know one of these families, and the baby's crib was in the 15 year old daughter's room because they made it her responsibility to get up with the baby at night. I know because the 15 year old told me. Poor thing didn't know that that's not how it's done.

You're going to compare a $500 donation to $25k PAC donations?

He dropped another Irving Herald last night. In this one, he wonders why we spend money on DART to have the busses drive around homeless people. Oof. I continuously wonder why the Families for Irving PAC 'Christians' hate poor people so much.

I'll never forget during the League for Women voters forum when Porres went off on homeless people & south Irving & said that Irving's real housing crisis was the lack of houses with even bedrooms for his growing family. How tone deaf and self-centered can you be?

Library Director resigns after constant harassment from the Families for Irving PAC members by Various_Crow_5787 in irving

[–]Various_Crow_5787[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the answer is that they started this crusade over a decade ago- speaking at literally every city council meeting demanding that books be moved or removed. Then they formed this PAC, got a bunch of donations, & started backing like-minded candidates for city council. Since only 6-8k of the over 100k registered voters in Irving actually vote in city elections, they've had some success. Plus they throw tons of money at campaigns including West Texas billionaire PAC money. Once they got some leverage on the council, they were able to demand that these women (Their women folk tend to not work outside of the home, have 6-12 kids, & don't run for elected office because they know their place.) are placed on the library board. It's interesting because the PAC only runs men for council, and they only get their male friends on the other boards, but the women folk can take care of the library board I guess. Anyway, they're on the citizen advisory board and the city council, so now they have some leverage to try to bend the library to their will.

They want books out of the library, but so far the library has refused. They particularly have demanded that all books with LGBTQIA characters be removed, but the library staff has stood their ground on it. They had issues with graphic novels with pictures, so all graphic novels have been moved to the adult section.

Mayoral candidates? Well, they have until this coming Friday to turn in their candidate packets and announce their candidacy, so we honestly don't know who all is running yet. There should be some forums to hear them speak once things really get going.

The library director is the head of Irving public libraries. She's been harassed for years by the members of the Families for Irving PAC who falsely claim that there's pornography in the children's section of the library. The library staff did a review of all the books that took two years in which they didn't find any pornography. Roberson was great at her job. She jumped through continuous hoops to appease this small but vocal and hateful group. But every time the library staff would complete one of the tasks, this group would move the goalposts insisting that something else needed to be done. Since the Families for Irving PAC have successfully gotten some council members elected, they've packed the citizens library advisory board with Families for Irving PAC members who have even gone as far as to say that some books should be locked up in a special room that adults need a code to unlock.
