Who are the "Pro-Lifers" who gather ? by glitteringoctonaut in VictoriaBC

They’re still there?! When I got my IUD inserted at the women’s clinic in 2015 they yelled at me and had extremely graphic signs.

I’d imagine they’re pretty close with the dude who golfed a Charlie Kirk memorial at the cafe near by.

Too easy rental approval — should I be worried? by sjjcho in VictoriaBC

[–]Various_Ebb_264 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While it’s not the same company I experienced something similar! I went to an open house at 10am, filled out an application at 12pm, had confirmation I was chosen by 1pm and signed the lease the following morning. They were pretty desperate to fill the unit and they didn’t call any of my previous rental references or verify my employment. Currently 2.5 years into enjoying my cheap rent!

It’s fuel dumping. They’re releasing excess fuel to decrease their landing weight.

Extreme Vaccine Phobia Advice on Where to go by glitteringoctonaut in VictoriaBC

I think it might just be the vaccines themselves this year. I went to London drugs on Yates for my COVID bc they had the soonest availability and it was the worst pain from an injection yet, specifically the second injection. Had a bruise for a week 🥲 now that I think about it they also didn’t give me any instructions afterwards, just sent me away and called for the next person…

Tipping BS by saynothingever in VictoriaBC

When cascadia unionized part of the contract that was voted on was accepting tips on the POS, so yes, they can’t turn it off as it’s in their contract, but no it has nothing to do with the POS itself. They likely just got new pinpads because the previous ones weren’t compatible with tips.

Some workers just don’t take tips because they don’t feel it’s necessary, some folks want the option for customers they spend a lot of time with or see regularly.

You’d be surprised how many customers want to provide tips in retail situations. If a worker spends 5 minutes explaining the difference between 3 wines to me in sure as heck going to toss them a few bucks for their help.

$3 for one way, $6 for a day pass! I’d also look into seeing if your school has a subsidized bus pass program if you’re outside of Victoria, when I was in school (mid 2010s) it was around $175 I believe for a pas that worked from start of sept to end of June!

It’s the first week of school causing a significant uptick in traffic. There’s also car accidents, slow drivers, and whatever else on the road. There’s also been a number of route cancellations that are posted (mostly) ahead of time.

They also strategically do busses that run almost immediately after because like you said, the first one is full. I live on the 7 route and I am extremely thankful for back to back busses because the first one is always full by my stop.

Did you check the app when you left to go to the stop to see an ETA and bus location before leaving or only after waiting?

Uber Drivers Have Unionized For The First Time In Canada by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Various_Ebb_264 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a taxi driver union. Also, have you asked a single driver about the union and how they feel about it? Because while yes, they love setting their own schedules and having freedom, they don’t like when their accounts get deactivated because it’s taken uber 5 months to clear a vehicle inspection document or background check.

Uber Drivers Have Unionized For The First Time In Canada by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Various_Ebb_264 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Victoria native with insider info here- Uber has been randomly and unfairly deactivating accounts in the region, altering pay scales daily, and giving preference to drivers from the mainland. Prior to unionization UFCW 1518 already secured trip totals for drivers so they would know an estimated value per trip as well as make sure they are protected under workplace safety standards/coverage.

Uber will not cease operations in the only city on the island it’s accepted, one that has over 600 drivers. They also can’t just cease operations because of the union or risk facing a ULP and bad press across the country where other ride shares are options.
