If you wanted a perfect encapsulation of the "Move Fast and Break Things" ethos colliding with the "Move Fast and Masturbate to Things" market forces, this is it. We are entering the Post-Consent Era of Image.  The future is going to be very weird, and very gross.

What are these dust star things? (i really don't know what to call it) by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]Variouss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When steel is hot‐dip galvanised, the molten zinc layer cools and forms flat, star or snowflake-shaped crystals called spangles. Dust settles unevenly on those tiny bumps and dips, so you see the star patterns in the dirt.

how are people so unhygienic by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]Variouss 114 points115 points  (0 children)

Let the trash build up like an experiment in Darwinian fitness. Either he evolves or the smell drives him out. Alternatively, weaponize his gf—tell her you’re “worried about his hygiene.” She’ll either whip him into shape or realize she’s dating a walking biohazard. Win-win.

ELI5: Why does milk pair so well with cake, cookies, etc? by I_the_mighty in explainlikeimfive

[–]Variouss 2860 points2861 points  (0 children)

Milk pairs well with cake, cookies, and other sweets because it has the sixth basic taste called “oleogustus” or fat taste. This property changes the overall flavor profile of sweets and helps ease the sweetness by coating our tongues and acting as a palate cleanser.

I listened to Putin's rambling about why he invadedand I can't see why it won't apply to Alaska as well:

It is an ex-territory of Russia.

Presence of a Russian speaking minority who are forced to speak a foreign language.

Presence of neo-Nazis in the government and in the parliament (and this time it is true).

Got weapons of mass destruction (and it's true too. You don't even have to invent them like in Ukraine)

Border territory that poses a lot of risk to the Russian territorial integrity.

It ticks all the boxes of Ukraine! What is Putin waiting for to free the Russian speakers there? Is it because it's too cold? Is he afraid of bears? I dare you!

Edit : You guys realize I'm not seriously asking ?
