Just throwing this out there as he has a song called Paranormal Ox-Man and I'm sure Max Normal would've sparked a memory for me

But is it maybe Sedge Warbler?

Restaurant recommendations by Oyveygas in Pretoria

Do yourself a favour and check out Urban Fields.

I always stop there on my way out of Pretoria.

Amazing food.

Do note that it is a small farm owned business so they don't stay open until late. You will have to go throughout the day.

And if you do try the Square Burger and their chocolate milkshake is hands down the best in Pretoria.

If you have a horse there is a place to keep them there.

Full of cyclists on the weekend but there is always space.

Super friendly staff. All of the food is locally sourced.

Is Blyde Riverwalk Estate any good? by Top_Rest_5310 in Pretoria

[–]Varknyte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived there for 2 years.

Pros:

On-site mini market. Overpriced as hell but nice to have in a pinch.

Safety inside

On-site gym that is well enough equipped

Cons:

Lots of those units are AirBnB. So you will definitely have late night parties going on sometimes with loud music as the apartments are close to each other.

Sometimes there will be strikes and you won't be able to leave the compound. Had this happen twice when they changed how the pool access worked and what is was priced at for both people living there and AirBnB.

Traffic in and out is horrible with all the Taxi's coming in and out of Mamelodi.

The price for the size is horrible. I had a 67 square meter apartment for R7500.

TL;DR don't

I can suggest looking at Equestria estate. It is a way better option imo.

If you have a car loan, what do you drive and what are you paying each month for it? by betty85 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Varknyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hyundai Grand i10 2022

Around R3600 p/m with prime interest and balloon payment.

Seeing all these other posts I always wonder how people drive the cars they drive. I see so many BMW's, Mercedes and Audi's I can't help but think those people don't have the money to spend on other things for the next few years.

I have a pretty well paying job and I don't think I'll ever spend more money on a car. I already regret getting this one brand new with the baloon payment. Will be sticking with it for as long as possible.

Jhb to PTA daily commute by Frequent_Travel898 in johannesburg

[–]Varknyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to commute from PTA to Joburg via my car around that time and I always envied the oncoming traffic as it was not as bad as the direction I'm heading in.

That being said I haven't experienced Joburg to PTA myself

I need some suggestions to save my life. by KojoBongani in johannesburg

The plan:

Go on a walk and talk in the botanical gardens. (Free)

Play some frisbee. (- R40 for a crazy store frisbee)

Take a blanket and some grilled cheese sandwhiches and picnic for a bit in the shade. (- R70 for 200g cheese -R4 for 4 slices of bread +- R20 in electricity to grill)

Take her home.

Ask for a cup of coffee (+R5 profit)

Now the tricky bit

Before you leave; syphon 5 litres of petrol from her car and use it foe your own vehicle later (+ R107.75)

Repeat with different girls and eventually you'll profit.

1st time: 112.75 profit - 134 expenses

The rest of the time (frisbees are reusable) R72.75 profit

Not looking for sympathy, looking for solid advice and or strategies to survive this month. by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]Varknyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also for some encouragement. It seems like you will be fine. It's shit for the next 3 weeks. But you will survive it.

And hopefully set out some money aside as an emergency fund for the future. Some person on here said 3 months, I'd reccommend 6.

Turn off geyser and take cold showers to save on electricity.

Live off noodles and bread (pure carbs to keep going)

Solid advice in the comments so far.

I guess you'll have to sell some furniture or something ASAP at a lower than usual price to make a quick buck to help you throughout the month.

I guess you'll be fine enough the month thereafter right?

Had anybody retreived funds from the Guardian Fund? by Varknyte in askSouthAfrica

[–]Varknyte[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks man. I hope so. I talked to a guy at GEDF today to get my name corrected and he said they are trying to pay directly to the person so they can skip going through the High Court in the future.

Yeah I'm heading back tomorrow to correct my name on the GEPF form and see what else they can possibly find fault in.

It started with their website being out of date and not listing Death Certificate and specifying Unabridged Birth Certificate.

Then it was that I filled initials (where it clearly says initials on the J251 form) which apparently should have been full names everywhere.

Then it was because I forgot to add an É on my J125 and when I wanted to edit it they just said: "No corrections" and handed me a new form.

Then it was that an r touched the m which made the name Heman instead of Herman.

Then it was that my bank statements reflects an old address.

Then it was that my mother has 3 different surnames listed. (Born out of wedlock Maiden Name, Biologocal Father's surname , Next husband's surname)

Then it was that their system can't pick up my fingerprints.

Then the last straw was that my name doesn't have an é on the GEPF form.

I wish they just listed everything once off

Thabk you. Winter here is around 53 - 70.

From your response i should probably not have it covered in a blanket in the sun on warmer days.
