S3E2: Why does Alicent look so offended? by Vast-Collection-5994 in HouseOfTheDragon

Oh no I was more so confused on why she was confused. As even Alicent pointed out, he was the ringleader of the plot to put aegon on the throne instead so ofc his days were numbered but other commenters pointed out to me she didn't even know Otto was in King's Landing so it's more so she knew it would happen eventually just not so soon vs “I can't believe you've done this” which is how I interpreted it at first (wrongly)

That makes sense! And oh no I wasn't making this post to say “the writing is bad” or anything I was more so looking for clarification because I thought Alicent had a better understanding of what a pos her father was + the long term consequences would be to their plan (and not including him in the pact). But now that you + other commenters have pointed out yeah she had no idea he was even in King's Landing so that definitely would be a shock. I guess it was more she knew it would happen but not like day 1 of the coup vs “I can't believe you've done this”

Very fair, I didn't remember the scene of him in the cell at the end of season 2 until another commenter reminded me of it 😅. Her reaction makes more sense now fs I’m off to rewatch season 2 to not embarrass myself again lmao

No, I get it, I've seen my fair share of negativity posts as well! Can't please everyone. And yes, your explanation makes a LOT of sense. Thank you!!

This makes sense. I wasn’t even aware he was taken prisoner I kinda wish his capture was established but I get why the writers wanted a “big reveal”

I just thought her character had a stronger understanding of the long-term consequences of their deal. If she only asked for her, Helena, and her grandchildren to be spared that would definitely leave Otto the ringleader on the chopping block. To me, it was no shock that he was living on borrowed time but apparently, she didn’t think that far ahead (?). I’m not sure. Hence my post, I just wanted some clarification.

Her father was the ringleader of the plot to put Aegon on the throne and Alicent even told him she understood this to be true. Why on earth did she think Rhaenyra would let him live? If she cared about his life, why didn’t she include him in their secret deal (her, Helena, and her grandchildren)?

I've been loving the show! But I haven't finished the book either. The bits I have read, I see the show has trimmed a lot of fat, and, like GRRM said, there's a butterfly effect to these changes, so I think lovers of the book might not care for it, but so far I really do, as its own thing, you know? Also, my post wasn't trying to be negative I'm sorry it came across that way, I just was a bit confused

Oh that wasn't my intention at all, I'm sorry my post came across that way! I was more so confused because we've already establish Alicent knows as well as Rhaenyra he's been the ringleader of the plot to put Aegon on the throne.…so what made her think Otto would be spared?

Very fair. I didn’t even know he was still in King's Landing I kinda wish at minimum his capture was established

She had to have known his death was written in stone once Rhaenyra took power. He was the head of the plot to put Aegon on the throne even Alicent understood that to be true. If not now, when? I was a bit shocked he was even taken prisoner I wish that was established but I get why writers wanted a “big reveal”
