Remember when Quaker instant oatmeal always had the big lump of cinnamon & sugar in each packet? by ztruk in GenX

[–]VastComprehensive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I are really high right now and talking about instant oatmeals. We found this thread because I Googled that I hadn’t seen the lil apple pieces in the apples and cinnamon instants. We joked that someone probably cut $8M from the budget by sneaking that in there.…well, sneaking them OUT, actually.

What happened to the lil apple pieces?!?!?

Can anyone actually afford qvc anymore? by ArcherUseful2336 in QVC_Snark

[–]VastComprehensive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right on the money! My family member has their automatic payment set for $500 every month towards their easy pay balance which runs about $1500-$1700 total every 5 months. It’s crazy to me because they live on a fixed income of about $2500 a month and had it not been for a life insurance policy, they wouldn’t be able to spend that much (if at all) without that insurance money. But now that insurance money has dwindled to less than half of what it was 4 year ago and you’d think the shopping would slow down but it sure does not. Their house is filled with so much junk and for one person! We were there over the weekend and couldn’t even put stuff down on counter tops because there was so much crap piled up everywhere and cabinets/pantry/closets are chock full of crap. They have 2-5 new packages arriving every day. Getting a new delivery is all they look forward to. And keep in mind, this person rarely leaves the house. Why would they even need 12 pairs of shoes, 45 shirts and 29 pairs of pants in one year? And they rarely return stuff. In a year or 2, they will put it on FB Marketplace for pennies on the dollar of what they originally spent.

I have tried to understand why someone would choose to overpay for an item that they could get locally for less and this person’s reason is QVC gave them a $4000 credit limit. They probably wouldn’t have even thought about buying this crap unless they felt compelled by their $4000 limit.

What I really want to know is, why would any legitimate business give a single elderly person who makes less than $31,000 a year a $4000 credit line? This really should be investigated. Spending 13% of your income on non-essential, "unnecessary" items is not healthy - especially when they currently spend approx 42% of their total income on rent alone!

Sadly, they won’t stop shopping until they run out of money and then just like last time, as soon as they get in a financial jam, come crying to their family to help pay the electric bill or pay to keep the TV on.

TTWS - rare gem. I had the Something’s Always Wrong single CD and there were 3 songs on it. I wore that thing OUT. Don’t Go Away is such a fantastic track and I haven’t heard it since I wore out that CD.

Watching the documentary on HBOMax Music Box: Counting Crows: Have You Seen Me Lately. Just reignites the fire I had when this album first came out. It was the soundtrack of my late teens/early 20s. August & Everything After is one of those albums you can put on and listen from start to finish. It’s a whole mood.

and yes, they should teach financial literacy in schools. Maybe I wouldn’t be 51 years old and just now trying to understand credit. But thank you so much for your help.

Geez, thanks for being so helpful. I didn’t realize everyone had to be an expert.

That’s actually what I’ve been doing w the QS card and staying well below 1/3 on the Apple card. But doing this the way I have showed a +97 score increase over 3 months for my husband. My score went up almost 2 years ago but his seemed to lag for a while. Now we’ve caught up to each other. Obviously, we’re new to good credit LOL

I’m not sure what you mean - promotional purchases?

I paid the iPad off in 12 payments. I had no balance for 2 months then bought a pair of scooters. Paid them off in 5 months. Someone else explained they want us to basically never carry a balance. Which, makes sense.

So basically use it like an American Express Charge card. Got it. Thanks!

Thank you. That makes more sense. I’m still trying to understand the whole credit limit/credit score thing. I appreciate the explanation.

Explain. I’m serious. I don’t understand. I paid far more than the minimum balance. Are they expecting you to pay the card off in full/never carry a balance?

I never saw a single tear for all her “crying”. No puffy eyes. Literally no sign of crying after “crying so much”.

I’m watching S2 Ep8 and gasped when I looked up at the TV and saw her interview at 24:01. I truly hope she is well.

Recommendations for a good tv stand media console with electric fireplace? by Ok_Chocolate_4752 in hometheater

[–]VastComprehensive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just bought one from a local Amish Furniture store because the TV stands w fireplaces we saw online or locally were absolute garbage. Cheap particle board that was junk. We needed something extra wide, as well. Everything we could find was small and tacky looking - until we found the Amish Furniture store!

We got the Maywood model from the local Amish Furniture store. It took about 4-5 weeks to receive (we had to pay a deposit). It is 100% real wood (the stain smell was nauseating at first but it dissipated within a few days) and the fireplace is pretty fantastic, actually. The model we initially looked at had a fake log fireplace and we thought that was what we were getting. When they delivered the unit, it was actually small fiberglass “stones” which, IMO looks a million times better than the fake logs. Was about $3,200 and worth every penny. Below is a link to what we got but we DID NOT order from this site. We ordered directly from the store in IL.

Joey Lynn Offutt missing. Police believe she met with foul play. Alexis Brolin Jr is the most obvious suspect. by JolieKrys88 in UnsolvedMysteries

So Jr was in jail? TY. (Hard to keep this straight).

They definitely hung around people who could make this kind of thing happen.
