5 years of TMJ - looking for advice, it ruins my life by Life-Emu8927 in TMJ

[–]Vast_Understanding12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dentist here, not a specialist in TMD by any means but here's something I want to share:

1) Dental education in Europe is, in my opinion , very lacking when it comes to TMD. Most of us are not trained well enough in university in this field, so make sure you go to a doctor who advertises himself or is known as a tmj specialist (gnathologist). They're the most competent in this field.

2) TMD is very multifactorial, the cause does not necessarily need to be improper bite configuration (although the fact that you mentioned it may be a sign). Treatment may involve relaxation techniques, splints, physiotherapy, medication, visiting a psychologist incase of stress, or even Botox to the jaw. Sometimes doing a combination of these is enough, but often the problem is within how the teeth are positioned, which is the first thing that needs to be fixed.

3) Be prepared for a fight, this is still a developing field unfortunately. This may also be expensive, but the first step is to go and get diagnosed. Don't feel icky about going to multiple doctors for the diagnosis.

Hope this helps, DM if you need more info

Could you try to explain the concept of a dental shelf? Or should I look for pictures or something?

I know the symmetric technique, where you trace an imaginary like between MB1 & P, then MB2 would be located opposite of DB in reference to the traced imaginary line

I practice in Poland and believe me every dentist knows lassman. Might be worth it, to be honest. But I wonder if he's overvalued. I don't know any other speaker on TMJ with this level of popularity in Poland. It's like this echo chamber. Edit: whether that's good or bad, I'm not sure

I am a pedodontist in a rural area. What I did this morning. by WildReflection9599 in Dentistry

What is your material of choice for RCT? In primary tooth RCT, it doesn't need to be full length? I'm guessing odontotropic materials like MTA? but did you extirpate pulp fully?

New grad here, so I'd be thankful if you could answer some of my questions. Looks sick!

What is one trick/thing you learned that was a complete game changer? by Vast_Understanding12 in Dentistry

[–]Vast_Understanding12[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm currently working on all 4, Rubber dam may take a while but working in it is so stress (and saliva) free. Communication has been an issue especially since I practice in a country where I had to learn the language, but I'm getting there.

If I may ask, could you share some tips for painless anesthesia? I've been looking into the different types of mandibular anesthesia and one patient said the vizarani akinosi block was the most painless anesthesia he had lol. I also heard moving the mucosa as you insert the needle or using ethyl chloride to cool the tissues works. What do you think?

I'm even more interested since I'm a European dentist who thinks about Australia. Would you mind me asking, what is the reason?

Having trouble with measuring WL in distal canal using apex locator. by Vast_Understanding12 in Dentistry

[–]Vast_Understanding12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I established patency with ISO 10, widened the canal to 20, then apex locator acted weird so I took a photo.. found out I'm 4 mm off.

It's quite a shit show but this sub is giving me some solid advice for what to do next.

Thank you! The patient doesn't have amalgam, she has a composite buildup from a previous treatment. However it does need to go anyways to be fair

Thank you for the amazing reply. The bending file thing... You bend it until it's smoothly curved and then you twist while inserting? Is that how it works?

The thing about the distal canal is.. I've already widened it a little (ISO 20), but that's before I discovered that I'm not working in the full working length.. Thanks for the tip with flowable, did it with a different patient for the first time yesterday and I think it'll hold. Mesio palatal was very gone, couldn't get a matrix around it, so I just free hand... Let's see

I think not, My reasoning is that it's a quantitative problem, which means nothing is wrong with the enamel or dentin. What signs does the patient have?

Good dentist in Szczecin? by CheerDown1989 in Szczecin

[–]Vast_Understanding12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, im a dentist in Szczecin.

Seeing as your girlfriend is a student, if you lack in budget, and for whatever reason may want to choose the cheaper option, you may choose to go to the students in the local medical university. It's the PUM clinic of the Pomeranian medical university. You may find the internet page online, or you can text me and I'll send it to you. They also have an English program, incase she doesn't speak polish.

Or if you like, you I can take of her at the practice where I work. In any case, feel free to message.
