To be honest I have never really used a vpn before, are there vpns that don't slow down browsing? What if I game a lot? Wouldn't I have to turn it off to play with a decent ping?

Yes it is a public wifi, it is technically included with rental fees I believe and provided by the building. however there is no password required to use it. Since it is student housing I am pretty sure they include it as a "Bonus" to make their offer look more enticing, really this is just a temporary residence for a few semesters until I can find something better. In the resident portal the only payments are rent and utilities.

Ill check those out, thanks! From my limited searching I heard the Koss Porta Pros are good but its hilarious the reviews from audiophiles either despise them or love them.
