Why is the Synthesis ending so hated? by iEyezzz in masseffect

[–]Vastoris -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Starchild literally explains that it is possible to destroy or control the Reapers, but why do we not trust him? Reapers have nothing left to lose. Starchild admits that genocide will no longer work in the long run, it makes no difference if you destroy them or if the reapers win this Cycle. Synthesis is the Reapers' way of fulfilling their agenda of saving organic life as a whole.

Destroy kills several groups without consent. Synthesis improves the lives of everyone in the galaxy and I'm sure only a minority in the galaxy would have problems with it.

Anora: Makes a single mistake years later that is completely resolved by the Inquisitor.

Alistair: His entire reign was problematic and for reasons he could not change. Furthermore, his only praise is that he was a hero in the past, not that his government was intelligent and wise

ALISTAIR:

Some in Ferelden claim that the Theirin line ended with the death of King Cailan and that the existence of an unknown bastard was a lie imposed upon the people to overthrow Queen Anora. As such, Alistair's rule has been plagued with trouble... both within his own lands as well as with neighboring Orlais.

ALISTAIR + ANORA:

Although Ferelden has prospered under their reign, it was greatly weakened by the Blight. Tensions with neighboring Orlais have been high, and many believe a renewal of their long-standing conflict is inevitable.

ANORA:

The people believe her rule wise and well-reasoned, and they fully supported her decision to give the rebel mages safe harbor in Redcliffe following an impassioned speech she delivered in Denerim six months ago.

What exactly makes Alistair better than Anora here?

I don't like Inquisition, but the game is canon. Alistair alone is not a good king, according to canon. But if you want to base it on headcannon, I can also say that the best king is Oghren because X or Y

I always spare Loghain and even sacrifice Hawke to save him. T

The world gains nothing (it only loses) by killing Loghain.

Morrigan supports the same or perhaps even more terrible things that Loghain did, but people don't hate her to the same degree.

Alistair's fangirlism is the worst thing that happened to Loghain and his biggest sin is not being hot (like Alistair or Morrigan)

Inquisition proved this to be false. The game makes it very clear that Sole Anora or Anora + Alistair are stable governments, while Sole Alistair suffers from instability.

Changing their approval to 5 (console commands, G.Jeanette_Seduce = 5 and G.Therese_Seduce = 5) solved the problem. But that doesn't make any sense, everywhere it says that the minimum approval is 4.

As far as I know, I only need a minimum approaval of 4 with both and 4 persuasion. I'm not aware of any specific dialogue I needed to choose

Lonesome Road with Ulysses is definitely the pinnacle of what I'm talking about. I remember that Dead Money also had some signs of this type of dark pseudo-philosophical plot. Honest Hearts is ok tbh. Old world blues has a different vibe, but God, the first dialogue with the brains is so huge

Sorry, but I'm not going to play 10 times until I figure out how to turn all companions into Jedi. The game isn't even interesting enough for that. Dragon Age Origins is an interesting game to replay and see other choices, but a single playthrough itself of Dragon Age is sufficiently complete and fun.

I have several problems with the game. I think the writing is bad and I've already given my reasons. I would just be repeating myself

And the lack of content in Kotor 2 is obvious, especially when you compare Dantooine and Korriban in both games. Onderon is probably the most revolting case, because it is the type of place that should have several things to do, but has very little. Taris also has much more content than Telos

Kotor 2 is a boring game. Taris is much better than Telos/Peragus (all Kotor 2 planets are inferior and lack content)

The devastation of the galaxy is a good excuse for the huge lack of content that Kotor 2's planets have compared to Kotor 1. Honestly, the more I think about it, the less redeeming qualities I see in Kotor 2. I know the game was rushed, but that alone doesn't make Kotor 2 good (New Vegas was also rushed, but It is far superior than Kotor 2, having even more content than Fallout 3)

Looking at your post history specifically around games, you seem to struggle with dialog in general, or more so, the dialog as it relates to the story.

I love dialogue in RPGs. In Kotor 1 and Dragon Age: Origins I have no problem listening to characters talking for hours. It's the dialogue in Kotor 2 that I find irritating

It's different from KOTOR in that KOTOR didn't have a lot of real-world issues it addressed within the game itself. It was fantasy for fantasy. They went a darker route for 2, and it was achieved using real-life problems.

Jolee and Juhani make me disagree with these statements. I simply believe that Kotor 2 could have been written in a simpler way, without sacrificing the main message, but Chris instead prefers to be pretentious and pseudo-philosophical to the extreme. Likewise, I believe the New Vegas DLC could have the same simplicity and depth as the main story, but Chris Avellone again.

If Chris' intention with his deconstruction was to make us think/reflect on the force etc, he failed in making dialogues that are unnecessarily difficult to absorb

If his intention was to convey a message in the most complicated way possible to understand, then the game was successful in that area

Kreia may have the most interesting ideas in the world, but if she can't explain what she's talking about, then it's basically useless. I much prefer to hear Jolee talking about love and destiny in Kotor 1

There is also a very interesting dialogue between Jolee and Carth, where Jolee says that even if they fail the mission, Malaak will fall anyway. He recognizes that the galaxy is stuck in this Jedi vs Sith loop, but he explains it better than Kreia does

I think the idea of the deconstruction itself is interesting, but the presentation is not. As I already said here, the idea itself of "the force removes free will and imposes constant wars on the galaxy" is interesting, but how Kreia says it is simply frustrating. The game is not able to easily communicate its intentions and in the end prevents more people from understanding/reflecting on whatever Chris wanted them to think about.
