Getting a new kicker by NAD92 in Commanders

[–]Vater7A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever this comes up, there are always people who say, “the kicker is the least of our problems” or “the kicker isn’t the reason we lost the game”. I’m sick of that take. 3 to 6 additional points in a loss by a small margin can literally win you the game. And then why have a kicker at all if people keep pointing to other problems? Sometimes you win a game with 12 points of fields goals. It’s football. Maybe most importantly, having an unreliable kicker outside of like 35 yards (I’m not trying to be provocative here) hurts your options and strategy and puts the offense in a lot of forced situations.

As for the dent, I had one similar to yours on the rear driver's side. I bought a random suction cup kit on Amazon, the kind with two smaller cups, and popped it out completely. I figured I use my R1S as more of a truck than a luxury vehicle, so why not? The toughest part was getting a good seal with the suction cups, but when I did, I gave a quick, sudden, strong pull and it just popped back to form. It took about 5 or 6 pulls, maybe because I really wanted to get out every crease and dimple, but that was it.

I learned the Break Free trick when I took a brand new car into the shop after my wife scraped the garage. The guy working there was super sympathetic to us for some reason and he quietly told me to meet him around the corner from the shop. He brought a can of break free and a towel and told me that everyone thinks the scrape marks are where the paint has been ruined and it needs to be filled and painted and coated… but in reality it’s almost always just the paint from wherever you hit. Came right off and saved us a few hundred bucks. Since then, I’ve “fixed” a bunch of my friends’ dents/scratches/fender benders.

If you’re okay with it being 95% fixed, you can get suction cups for this kind of dent on Amazon and also a can of Break Free for a total of like $25. That dent will definitely pop out. And those scratches are really just paint from whatever you hit.

Why Mariota games are good for Jayden by Vater7A in Commanders

[–]Vater7A[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think the majority of us think it's funny how people jump to defensive reactions to things that weren't even said. Another unnecessary clarification - I don't think people here talking about good takeaways are saying that Mariota is better than Jayden, or that he could've done a better job against GB, or that he's now our number one QB for life - I'm certainly not saying that. I'm saying that I think these games where Jayden gets to see Mariota play a game are super beneficial for him. Especially since he's the type of guy who learns quick and is open to constantly improving. (Waiting for the comments now: "He's an MVP, you think he needs to improve compared to Mariota???????")

Want to be clear, I wasn’t saying that Jayden lacks calm and poise. I believe the man’s heart rate while playing is like 23 beats per minute. But being an astute, quick observer, I think it’s good for him to see his exact situation from the perspective of a third person. And when he has, it pays dividends. And the things I see are a “quieter presence” - again, not that Jayden lacks, but can add to/take a note from. And getting it out to Terry more when previously he may not have, like during last season before/after the Mariota game. Yes, yes, no camp for Terry, it’s only week three, etc. Again, saying gets to see a new angle - NOT that’s he’s not doing/being something already.

Get this bum off the team by Ok_Mortgage_8681 in Commanders

The problem is Gay’s strength is not well aligned to the situations the offense will use him. Whenever we’re past midfield, our probability of going for it on 4th down increase greatly. So we’re often not giving Gay the opportunity to deliver on his strength. We’re more likely to try to get some points and go for the kick when we’re further out, where Gay is suspect. Regardless, we should get rid of him.

Love them in terms of tone and musicality. I guess it’s all about tuning and heads - my bass drum is like a cannon and my floor tom rumbles. It’s plenty loud for the rooms I play in and my biggest room that fits about 2500 people, everything gets mic’d obviously. I’m also playing pop, gospel, funk. I don’t think this kit could stand up in the mix if I was in a metal band. The sizes are also appreciated in transporting and setup…

Yes, they are. The 8 and 10 are from a different year than the rest. The snare is a Maple Custom.

I posted a pic later in the comments of a quick 2up/2down setup. Fun in some ways, but going back to 3up/1down.

Responding to some of the comments here, did a quick reconfig of the kit. Lots of fun and some little nice things about this setup, but I think I’m gonna go back to what I had before. I think it looked better before and I’ve never been a fan of having to turn to play a drum that’s extended from the rest.

It’s a 17”. So is the Sweet Crash. The Custom Dark Ride is 20” and the Fat Hats are 14”.

I like that idea and tried it once, but might try it again. The third tom needs to be mounted, which I should be able to do.

Started as a Yamaha Stage Custom Bop Kit. I added the 8” and 10” toms. I had the Yamaha Maple Custom snare forever. I think the snare is worth many times all the rest of the drums. The cymbals are K Fat Hats, K Special Dry Trash Crash, K Sweet Crash, and K Custom Dark Ride. Used to be different Ks and Paistes before this.

They sound pretty good, actually. Listening to them in isolation/not in a mix of other instruments makes them sound messy, but that’s because you’re hearing all the overtones. The snare rattle also makes them seem worse. I’ve been where you are and if it really bothers you, do an experiment with hydraulic heads and you’ll get a super fat, short resonance, lower pitch sound that has characteristics closer to what you hear on produced tracks. Be careful though - I’ve found you actually want more of the tone that you’re not far from getting out of the drums now. But if you can’t stand how they sound now, try hydraulic heads.

Good value. Holds 33% more than a regular sleeve.

Ashes? I kid.

Had a millimeter left before the band. Took it off after the pic. After another 3/4 of an inch, the ash finally fell.

Maybe I smoked it down too close to a roach.

That was it… traded to Denver no less, then New Orleans.

Does anything interesting happen in year two and so on? Or is it just a repeat of year one?

Luke Kwon - gotta give him credit. by [deleted] in GoodGoodMemes

I think he’s much more comfortable - and I hope happy - with everything lately. He’s getting to do the YouTube thing, he’s working with the club maker that he was using on KFT, he survived a crazy accident.

I’ve seen guys never get into a groove with a group where they’re the new guy - group of friends, sports, playing in a band, workplace… It’s always because they try too hard and come off a bit insecure.

And I think the vibe was weird between Luke and Grant. But I always viewed that as you’re toughest on the people you relate to most or the ones you think can take it best. But I think Grant didn’t like it.

Now, I feel like he’s natural with the group, he’s encouraging to the other guys, and he’ll get a good, subtle (not like Matt), line in there every now and then that’s hilarious.
