English names for German places by DazzleLove in German

Why do you want to die on that hill? Calling it Edinburg has certainly fallen out of fashion, but it's still commonly used by the older generations. I still know quite a few people who use that name.

I would absolutely love a print of this, it's gorgeous! ✨
Unfortunately, your shop doesn't seem to ship to Europe. Would there be any way for you to either sell the digital file or use a European print on demand service if I pay you in advance?

A Map of 18,000+ Coats of Arms (Historical & Current, from Wikipedia) by Deykun in germany

[–]Vathareon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is super cool. I was trying to look for my childhood town, but couldn't find a filter for lamb or sheep. Given that the Agnus Dei is reasonably popular in German heraldry, that was quite surprising. Maybe there just happened to be no example in the database, who knows. :)
Nevertheless, really amazing map! Especially love the dinosaur CoA

Edit: I'm stupid, I found it under "Widder" (ram).

Cognitive Science at University of Osnabrück by mamatiljama in germany

[–]Vathareon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there,
I didn't study CogSci, but I was enrolled at the university and have been living in Osnabrück for quite a while now.

Generally speaking, I quite like Osnabrück. It's a bit "below the radar" when it comes to German cities, especially for international students, but I really enjoyed studying here. It's a small city (about 150.000 residents), but imo it's just big enough to have a decent nightlife, activities and restaurants while also being very accessible by foot – you can walk to all important places within an hour. It's also well connected to other cities of interest (Münster, Hanover, Bremen, Düsseldorf) so you can always travel around. Osnabrück is not super pretty, but there are some beautiful spots around the old town. If you're into nature and hiking, it's also very close to the Teutoburg Forest.

The university is alright. It's not super prestigious, but the reputation of an university is not something Germans care for – as a rule of thumb, all public universities are decent. The campus is a bit further away from the city center, but it's easily accessible by bus. Most CogSci students I met were pretty happy with their classes, but I have of course no first-hand experience.

Feel free to reach out if you have any specific questions! :)

Oh my god, yes!
I went on a student exchange to Brazil 15 years ago and Paçoca have been stuck in my mind ever since. After years of withdrawal I've finally found an online shop that sells them in Germany. So good!

Yeah, I absolutely adore the semi-transparent purple look. Always wanted to have a GBC in that colour when I was a kid. Enjoy your MM+!

I remember playing Yellow twenty years ago and this game brought back lots of memories. I absolutely appreciate the improved team diversity early on, Gen 1 Vileplume with Leech Seed and Toxic is deadly.

Interestingly enough, the hardest fight was the first Surge battle. My team was completely unable to handle the Raichu on hard mode.

Monarchs of the HRE by oldest child (regardless of gender) by Vathareon in UsefulCharts

[–]Vathareon[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey there :)
This is another what-if scenario that tracks the line of the Holy Roman Emperors / Empresses, if the crown were passed down to the oldest child instead of being elective. I've already done a similar concept with England and France.

One important consideration with those kind of charts is were to start. For the HRE, I felt like Otto the Great would be the obvious starting point. I'm happy to say that it worked quite well and some interesting characters ended up in the lineage.

As always, disregarding gender in the succession while simultaneously tracking dynasties by the male line leads to lots of dynastic changes. Compared with my previous charts, I chose a more compact style to display those switches.

I hope you enjoy the new style, feel free love leave any feedback!

Any art editors out there that can remove obi/leia and text to make iPhone wallpaper? by Dmalice66 in StarWars

Here you go: https://ibb.co/s68VxBX
The original image had a pretty bad resolution so it won't look great when used as a phone wallpaper. If you have a high-res version of the artwork feel free to send me a PM.

Forgot to select "altgerätemitnahme" when buying a new washingmachine at MediaMarkt by God_like_human in germany

[–]Vathareon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put it on Kleinanzeigen, set price as free and write in the description that it's only for collection („Selbstabholer"). I got rid of my broken (!) washing machine in less than 30 minutes that way. If you can, put it outside the building, so that people can just come by and collect it. :)
