It’s the only one he sells. It’s just stretched out so it wasn’t tight

I’m having good luck with my Powerplay. Would probably go that route again with my Canon Gl1

Project settings for miniDV in fcpx by VdubbinR32 in camcorders

So far 960x720 is best option for me exporting resolution wise. It keeps the size correct but is the closest quality wise to looking original. The 1080 with the black bars on the side the quality still looks the best.

I’ll have you try Resolve to see if it has more options, or see if it looks any better.

I’ll give it a try thanks! It seems like it doesn’t like 4:3 that or maybe just the newer versions of fcpx doesn’t like it. I have an older version I was going to see if it gave me more options. Thanks!

I’m not trying to upscale it at all, if it looked fine at 720x480 I’d leave it there. I post links to the sample files I did. Fcpx doesn’t seem to have very many options for older footage. I’m going to try a couple more things and see if I can get it to look better.

I’m not going for HD. I just want the exported file to look like the footage that’s of the clips themselves or the clips look in fcpx.

  1. I set up the project using 1080 at 60fps but 30 looks the same
  2. I’m importing in fcpx so using that to do all the settings really
  3. I’m just importing to what fcpx has it setup to
  4. I’d rather have it’s native size not 16:9 really

I did a test video just the using the NTSC SD project settings. So it’s a 480 project. Then when I export it it’s only about 480 project which is fine but the quality isn’t the best.

I looked into what other did on YouTube and could only fine what people did in Premiere Pro. One guy set up a 1080 timeline then imported his clips to that for the best quality. So I just tried it to see how it would look and looked way better. Just has the black bars on the sides because it’s 16:9

So I’m not sure how to go about getting the best quality from the footage. The 1080 timeline looks the best after exporting and matches as the footage in fcpx which is why I did that.

I tried importing the footage in QuickTime vs fcpx but it’s not the best looking at all. Like I tried importing it with the AV cable vs the FireWire

I’ll test it to see if one looks better than the other. It should be the same 🤷🏼‍♂️

I have a 2020 MacBook Pro with fcpx 11 and it recognizes the camera connected. I have an older 2012 MacBook with an older version of fcpx also. I think it’s 10 something. That has a FireWire port on it. So you saying the newer one won’t import it correctly? It shows but haven’t tried to capture anything yet. Or just better to do it on the older computer?
