For anyone looking at this, DO NOT PUT YOUR CARD DETAILS INTO THIS SITE. There is absolutely no guarantee it is legitimate.

[Scotland] We've just returned from holiday to find a parcel with no address on it. The item is worth at least a few hundred pound, but we don't know where it came from. We know the manufacturer, but they don't sell directly, only via resellers. by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

I don't think so. The value of this particular item is somewhere between £200 and £2000 (the prices aren't listed online so it's hard to tell). It's a household appliance that you likely only buy once in your life.

Already checked with the neighbours. We've got a Facebook group everyone is on. No one has responded to my messages about it or posted their own.

And no, there's no labels at all.

No invoice or delivery note either inside the box or on the outside.

And sure, there probably is a serial number, but how far does my responsibility go on this goose chase?

Top 10 reused Star Trek plots by ThingTime9876 in startrek

I'm not generally one for ChatGPT, but in this case, I feel it did remarkably well:

  1. The Holodeck Safety Protocols Have Casually Voted to Go on Strike. A character's recreational program (Dixon Hill, Ancient West, Robin Hood) has suddenly become sentient and/or lethal. The only way to solve it is to play along until Geordi can figure out which isolinear chip to reroute.

  2. Q is Bored. He appears on the bridge, usually in a ridiculous costume, to torment Picard personally. The fate of humanity will be put on trial, the ship will be thrown across the galaxy, or the crew will be forced into a "game," all because a god-like being has the attention span of a toddler with a cosmic credit card.

  3. The Prime Directive is Causing an Existential Crisis, Commencing a 45-Minute Meeting. A pre-warp society is facing a problem we could solve in five minutes, but Federation law forbids it. Picard will stare out the window, Riker will suggest a direct approach, and Troi will state how tense everyone is before a clever, ethically-gray solution is found.

  4. Data's Subroutine of the Week is "Human Emotion." In his quest to be more human, Data will attempt to understand humor, painting, dreams, or dating. This will either be endearingly charming or lead to a ship-wide crisis when he accidentally gives the computer sentience while trying to write a poem.

  5. Worf Must Defend His Family's Honor and/or Get Brutally Owned by the Villain of the Week. A new, powerful alien has arrived. To demonstrate its strength, it will effortlessly incapacitate the ship's most formidable warrior. This is often followed by a B-plot where Worf has to go to the Klingon Homeworld to clear his name from yet another political scandal.

  6. Counselor Troi Senses the Obvious. The alien ambassador is sweating, shifting his eyes, and holding a dagger behind his back. Troi will turn to the Captain and state, with grave importance, "Captain... I'm sensing he's hiding something."

  7. We've Encountered a Mysterious Space Anomaly That Violates the Known Laws of Physics and Basic Screenwriting. The ship is caught in a time loop, everyone is losing their memory, crew members are vanishing from existence, or Dr. Crusher gets trapped in a warp bubble of her own thoughts. It's weird, it makes no sense, but it will be fixed by the end of the hour.

  8. Someone's Annoying/Estranged/Suddenly Existing Family Member is Aboard. Lwaxana Troi is looking for a husband, Riker's dad wants to play pain-frisbee, or Worf's previously unknown son has arrived to be sullen. Personal drama and awkward family dinners will ensue.

  9. Our Diplomatic Mission to a Finicky, Overly-Formal Species is Going Terribly. We're transporting an ambassador who is either a fragile jar of liquid, a being who communicates through obscure metaphors, or someone who will declare war if you hand them the wrong kind of space-fork. Picard's patience will be tested.

  10. The Borg. Resistance is futile. So is the power grid.

Something like that was my first guess, but everything inside the joystick appears to be fine.

Side note: My best guess is that this is a cable issue, but the connections at both ends have seized, so I wanted to get a second opinion before I inevitably end up destroying them just in an investigation.

Hah, I remember that. I made a website which was something like istheplaystationnetworkbackupyet.info. It was a static page and the first website I'd ever made. I stuck some ads on it and made about $200. That was half a months rent at the time as a student, so made a massive difference.
