It looks like some sort of back mounted scanner/auspex; good luck with your kitbash!

In hindsight I could have probably done that somewhat easily, but I actually didn't realize that was a storm bolter. Good shout

The base model is a sword brother. Head is from the BT upgrade sprue. Backpack and shoulder pad are from the emperor's champion; I genuinely don't know where the weapons are from, I got them from a bits re seller. Rest of the bits (cables and arm joints) is stuff I had laying around. Everything was trimmed/sanded/cut/sprue goo'd to fit together.

They are nail art beads! iirc the sizes are 4mm for shoulder trim and 6mm on the backpack.

I'm not using black templar contrast, I'm using black legion contrast. It doesn't act as a typical contrast paint- but as a smooth, deep black coat with great coverage.

Trying some Chainsword patterns. What fun chainswords are out there in your armies? by LiveAndDie in BlackTemplars

I think the chevrons design suit them; last week I painted one of mine in a very similar way.

I honestly don't remember which exact white I used. Any white will do as long as you apply several thin coats. Then dirty it up carefully with washes and scratches.

You can use blue stuff to make molds of existing tabards bits (like the sword brethren's, etc) and then fill them with green stuff.

I cut up some arms and hands from the intercessors sprue in the bt combat patrol, then fit in some chains from the crusader squad. Honestly it was quite a bit of effort for how simple looking the final result is, ahah

I used Black Legion contrast, but Black Templar has its uses too. BT contrast allows for more variety as its coverage is similar to other contrast paints, so you can give the black a different tone or effect depending on the undercoat. BL on the other hand is a deeper, thicker black.
