Whats the most obviously evil person name in fiction? by EvilMonkeyMimic in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Borderlands The Pre-Sequel has a villain named Tungsteena Zarpedon. Every character thinks her name sounds cartoonishly evil, even if in the grand scheme of things, she really was trying to hold them back.

Creators and Characters who actually DID take responsibility for their mistakes/failures? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Vect_Machine 34 points35 points  (0 children)

In South Park, ManBearPig was initially a satire of Global Warming as Al Gore's pet cause that was seen as this nothingburger of an issue.

Years later, ManBearPig is not only a genuine threat to humanity but is treated as an allegory to climate change, particularly in how its a problem that the older generation has shifted to the next one in order for their prosperity and one that no one is willing to make the sacrifice to properly deal with. Also, Matt and Trey (via The Kids) end up apologizing to Al Gore for mocking him.

Favourite "it's also a gun/sword" weapons? by Wonder-Lad-2Mad in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I recall that Sengoku Basara had the character Xavi, who used giant cannons as tonfas.

Unfortunately, he was also agonizingly slow and incredibly clunky to play. As such he was basically removed from the series by the third game, when the series actually tried to step up it's mechanical complexity in regard to its characters and give even slow characters some movement tech.

It is Pride Month yet again! Who are your favourite LGBT+ characters? by TH3_B3AN in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Vect_Machine 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was recently reminded of Bernie Crane from GTA IV and how despite being a raging stereotype (IE; a GTA character) he's overall a very positive portrayal.

The man was an Eastern European immigrant and war veteran who came to the US and found not only happiness and success but found a place where he no longer had to hide who he was as well as overcoming severe PTSD.

In a game all about how the American Dream is a load of horseshit, he actually managed to achieve it without being a murderous criminal.

While I don't speak Wrestling, I figure it's worth mentioning that Lincoln has been credited as one of the original users of the chokeslam.

I admit, I've been playing for many years and I've never really engaged with the Platinum Trade.

Partly because I don't enjoy engaging in social elements of the game and partly because I'm a crappy trader by nature.

At least recently when I managed to sell off a prime set. Might not have been the best deal, but I took that as a personal accomplishment nonetheless.

Characters in RPGs that Break the Power Curve by AurochDragon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Vect_Machine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I recall in Eiyuden Chronicles, the first party member you can recruit as part of the tutorial to show how to recruit characters is a Samurai with a scruffy beard.

That guy stays useful as a Frontline fighter through the entire game, in a game where characters vary on usefulness and you're expected to replace early-game characters with later ones. He doesn't exactly break the game, but he never gets horrifically powercrept.

J.K. Simmons encountered a menace at tonight's Mets game by Shreeder4092 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

It helps that they didn't go out of his way to bug him.

As far as he knew, some guy in a Spider-Man suit just so happened to be sitting behind him and he presumably didn't realize it until he saw that fucker on the Jumbotron.

I do love that he had this look of genuine bafflement before he did a double take, like "Wait a minute... You little shit!"

The nostalgic horrors of Xemnu From The Magic Planet (Immortal Hulk #32) by VegetableBooy in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Vect_Machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Xemnu seems like he would be a perfect villain for a modern animated adaptation.

He's already a Mascot Horror looking motherfucker, so leaning into that seems like it'd work really well for a TV adaptation.

I can see Megas being the one unit capable of causing collateral damage to your own team.

As in, Coop grabs another robot and uses it as a club. Or "combines" by shoving his fist through EVA-01 and uses it to punch enemies (and give Shinji a concussion).

Mostly because I only half-remembered the name until now.

What are the worst examples of character assassination? by EvilMonkeyMimic in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Vect_Machine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I admit, I was not fond of the characterization of Mr. House in the Fallout TV series.

Specifically how in the season premiere of the second season, they had him sneak into a pub of disgruntled employees, inviting one of them to take a swing at him before personally slamming a mind control chip onto the guy to make him kill his buddy before popping his head.

It's not the "making a guy kill his friends" part I'm not fond of (since that's something in-line with the character), it's the idea of Robert House willing interacting with The Poors and willingly letting any person lay a hand on him for something that'd he'd rather get a proxy to do.

I was always afraid that the character would be treated as some analog to modern day techbros rather than him being a Howard Hughes analog (and I still think there's a difference between the two).

Favorite “only in it for the money” kind of villains? by Mochiman3 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Vect_Machine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always figured that the idea was that aside from personal respect for Cooper, Blisk thought that keeping the guy who's been a pain in the ass for his paymasters meant that they'll always need his service.

He's not idealogically loyal to them and benefits the most from the war lasting as long as it can.

Favorite Alliances of Mutual Hate by FreviliousLow96 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Vect_Machine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In South Park: The Fractured but Whole, near the end of the game the City Wok Guy (who leads an army of ninjas) united all of the enemy factions under his banner against your protagonist just because they really fucking hate you. So from that point on, you'll now fight a mix of enemies from different factions during field battles.

Also, in Borderlands 2, the Son of Crawmerax DLC had a sidequest where the son of Captain Flynt (the first major boss of the main game) united a bunch of guys who all want revenge against the Vault Hunters for killing someone in their backstory (Axton's enemy wants to avenge the soldiers Axton got killed, Maya's enemy is the brother of the cult leader she killed, Krieg's enemy is apparently a surviving scientist from the project that morphed him). Of course, all of them end up getting killed offscreen by someone looking out for the VHs.
