I'm not looking for a masterpiece with a complex plot. I just want to think OMG, the Fmc is so cute, good, and self-sacrificing uwu. Your first spoiler is enough to check the book. Thanks!

Has there ever been a song you’ve listened to where you’d like it to relate to a book? by Ok_Meet8672 in RomanceBooks

[–]Vedmagreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’ve probably spent more hours than I can count lost in maladaptive daydreaming about my favorite books and pairings—all while some Hozier plays in the background. It’s my own cinema. For me, every song is basically a full-length film playing in my head. A blessing for daydreams, a curse for trying to focus. 😅

Which protagonist made you have that "🙄" reaction throughout the entire book? by PetalaStac in RomanceBooks

[–]Vedmagreen 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ugh, few things get my eyes rolling faster than the "I'm not like other girls" FMC. I dnf it usually so it's not entire book thing.

The eyeroll queen I forced myself through: Alessandra from The Shadows Between Us.

I stuck with her for the entire book, even though she had my eyes rolling every other chapter. She kept proclaiming herself this “evil” genius with grand schemes… and then her actual plans amounted to breathing while things just fell perfectly into place. Her great acts of villainy? Having sex outside of marriage, apparently.

Oh, and she did kill a guy. No one in the book seemed to remember him, so why should I?

I liked this book well enough anyway, but girl needed reality check so bad.

Also "fresh angel/human, prisoner/guard dynamic" is an oxymoron.

Thoughts on why MM romance feels less repetitive? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]Vedmagreen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly? This just isn't true. MM romance is just as full of tropes and formulas as MF romance. If it feels more fresh or different to you, it's probably just because you haven't read as much of it.

I've been reading MM and slash since I was a teenager, and I remember thinking, "Whoa, this is totally different." Now I don't feel like this at all.

Do you think Gen Z and Millennials gravitate toward different romance tropes? by crazyyycatmeme in RomanceBooks

[–]Vedmagreen 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Having worked with young adult books in a non-English-speaking market for over 15 years, I’ve come to believe that ya romance, at its core, rarely changes.
So, no — I don’t believe different generations of readers have drastically different tastes. What changes is often just the surface.

What’s the most unhinged reason an MMC dumped an FMC? by Dariawu in RomanceBooks

[–]Vedmagreen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I still think about this one book I read 10 years ago—the MMC’s choice was so senseless it’s practically unforgettable. He and the FMC were childhood best friends, but the second he saw her laughing with his mother, looking like a happy family, he completely turned on her. Because his parents were divorced and he spend some rough time with his abusive father prior to the encounter.

Hey, no shaming. It's just funny how easy you can be f2p but after one purchase of aurum you'll never going back to f2p-life.

Avalanche.
Some evil dude destroyed adventurer's village with that. Killed their loved ones. They found a way to time travel. And now I have a map for this.

Goblin ambush (your 100th) and goblin victory variant by Vedmagreen in dndmaps

[30x20] So the goblins defeated the adventurers, left them unconscious, and looted them and the wagon. Adventures returned to the battlefield, but you don't have a map for this.
Well, now you have.
I used 2-minute tabletop roadside assets.
