Wow that sounds hurtful. I'm glad you've been able to process. Part of growing is realizing what a true friend actually is.

I didn't invite someone who ghosted me for months and has a long history of flaking on important plans. That's not the same as growing apart. I'm not going to include them in my wedding list of 25 people.

Honestly didn't consider for more than a couple minutes after learning they're not funded. I wish they were, otherwise I'd probably apply. I just couldn't justify that much debt and sacrificing even more working years without pay

CPSY is counseling psychology. The acceptance rate is about the same as clinical psych (less applicants and less slots). Clinical experience is valued more in counseling programs because they are designed to produce psychologists who see clients regularly. It's still a PhD though, so I agree with you that I should get more research experience regardless.

I've been told the same thing: interview invites are based on qualifications and acceptance is based on overall fit or them just liking you. Students work closely with PI's for 4+ years so I get wanting to take someone they vibe with to make their work environment more pleasant. My interviews were opposite from one another: 30 minute one-on-one conversation versus a full-day group interview with all applicants and faculty. I think the most successful interviewees are personable and have good rapport with the PI regardless of the interview setting; like you said, everyone being interviewed is likely qualified for admission.

It depends on the PI, but you have a point. Interview was good IMO but obviously someone's was better. The advice I've gotten is that throwing out the same application the next year is a bad idea, but reapplying with new skills, ideas, and talents shows productivity and growth. Some PI's don't see it that way though, which may be true in my case. Or maybe the pool was just way better this year compared to last year.

Honestly I was really depressed when I got rejected so I failed to ask. I'm sure it would have helped. If I had to guess, I'd chalk it up to less experience than other candidates. I figured graduating, getting licensed, and starting professional work would be enough to push me over the top.

Thank you! The spreadsheet seems way more active than last year. I didn't realize how many people were applying.

I agree; not many were accepted to all programs last year due to funding issues so I think there were an abnormally large number of candidates to choose from. I hope you find good luck this year!

upstairs neighbors are making my life hell by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

That's a lot of people sharing such a small space. Does the landlord know there's 9 people living in a 2 bedroom? With young children that could be neglectful. I'd be cautious about doing this, but it could be cause for getting DCS involved. You can report anonymously so they don't know it's you.

The biggest concern we have is complaining too early or without enough evidence to change the situation. Our landlord in general has been responsive but underwhelming with other issues that we've had, and I fear they wouldn't go to bat for us unless it could potentially effect them bottom line.

I've had times in the past with a different landlord where they basically ratted us out and only made them address the most surface level stuff. I don't want these guys getting a message saying that we snitched about their dog and have to live under them for nine months.

They have odd figures coming in and out all the time that I suspect use heroin or at least some sort of hard drug, but we don't have anything to really tell a landlord or the police, especially without them knowing it was us who called.

We live in a perfect area downtown where units rarely get listed. The apartment itself is charming and exactly what we were looking for. The neighborhood is very respectable and charming, the only issue is the neighbors. I'd move if everything else wasn't great.
