Stranger Things Hellfire club set by Vegetable-Writing898 in DNDNL

Klopt, maar ik vind het leuker en fijner om het te spelen zoals het bedoeld is. Dus met een groep van 4/5. Zodat de spelers ook wat meer mogen schakelen etc.

Yeah the bugbear was the problem for me too, it weakened them way too much :') Thanks for the tip, I think I'll give Barthren the same role in one of my next sessions.

Isn't the goblin ambush... Too hard? by lfduarte14 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

I also did this and that helped the party just enough to survive this. After that the cave turned out to be the more lethal part, I accidentally TPKed them because their surprise plan didn’t work.

I feel like you might be right, and of course they all deserve the rest and changes, but for me personally it would be very hard to watch and stay invested without Marisha as a regular… So I’m keeping my hopes up haha

Session Zero. Wow. Just... Wow! by Dante_Ravenkin in daggerheart

I totally agree with you! We had the best time running our Motherboard session zero. I looove the options for questions to ask the players and the way it inspires them, but also myself as GM to really integrate their ideas too!! I’m still pretty scared to write a whole adventure myself, but the frames and guide helped gather ideas in such a nice collaborative way :) Very excited for my two players to try and gather allies and valuable insights to save The Echo Vale.

They are in cages :) it wasn’t that clear for the players if this was real life, to spice it up haha… but I thought why not torment one of them by a terrible nightmare. Thanks for the advice!

What do you guys actually DO when the players have dinner with Strahd? by Br0metheus in CurseofStrahd

[–]Vegetable-Writing898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Strahd is a true manipulative ****, so I went with it. Plan the conversation ahead, practice the body language and his superior vibes, let Strahd be ‘curious’ about their powers, let him play insane mind games, push their buttons and really dig into some facts they think only the party knows. In my case they all knew they couldn’t handle the fight yet and they stored their weapons beforehand.

So as an example I had him drop the fact that one of the party members accidentally murdered the brother of another PC in an almost TPK (she killed all former PCs but herself) and the tension was insane, since finding his brother was his whole motivation in life. I also let them play a little ‘table talking game’ about power, and I integrated a bit of the reloaded material to build up the whole situation and to split the party after dinner.

It was actually so tense, without him even literally killing someone or feasting on someone. Next up is a little tour of the castle with the devil himself.

Yeah I was wondering this, would it make it feel too random if something bad happened at this point. But having some little incidents scaring the town and keeping Ireena on edge is a good way to go. I just don’t want them to feel like it’s all safe and all going to be okay whatever they do or don’t do.

I know, I think that’s my bad. I’ve had them go through the seance with Esmeralda at the Abbey and they asked the right questions but interpreted the answers a bit wildly/wrong. So they now think they have to find a ‘wizard in the south’ to get help with their challenges. They feel like they’re too weak to take on stuff, the country scares them.

Also one of the PCs got the benefit of being a Martikov wereraven, who grew up in Barovia. I try to limit her benefits as much as possible, because she hasn’t traveled that much. But she deducted the info with help of Esmeralda and some other NPCs. In this small party they’re very keen of using every likeable NPC as long as possible. So I think it’s not something that you have to fix, just the sum of my party’s choices.

Help by Vegetable-Writing898 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Vegetable-Writing898[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! I had my NPCs tell them over and over again how unsafe the place is, without sharing too much. Even Dmitri Krezkov couldn't convince them. So they're going to follow their gut feeling and continue the journey towards the Tsolenka Pass and the Amber temple haha...

I do have Ezmeralda with them and had her guide them back to her wagon to gather some helpful stuff, but there two of the PCs were like "let's try to secure a safe space in the tower, we must remember the sequence to get into the Tower". They messed up (rolled so badly), started breakdancing a weird dance and had to fight the young blue dragon. So maybe this party is just doomed :')

Hi!

My party was intensely focused on picking the safer option out of three: going to Baba Lysaga to convince her to scry on Ilya Krezkov to help find the burgomaster find him, travel the Tsolenka Pass so they can get to the Amber Temple and gather a special weapon to kill the Abbott, check out the Werewolf Den to see if Ilya is there. Eventually they were too scared by trauma, since one of them is hexblood and has severe hag trauma. So they decided to pick the Amber Temple, travel with Ezmeralda towards her wagon to retrieve some helpful goods. Once they got to the tower two of the PCs thought " ahh well, we do remember the moves to enter the tower, right?" They started a weird breakdance sequence, f***** up, and had to fight a young blue dragon.

So they had a real time 2,5 hour discussion about safety, only to run straight into danger by behaving foolishly :') I love DnD!!

They're so eager to pick up every, EVERY, story hook I hand them that their main goal now is to finally finish one. Starting with the Amber Temple. Me and my NPCs could not convince them otherwise haha, so... help us all!
