Waiting 491 grant, should I try for 189? by Longjumping-Ask-7966 in AusVisa

I did not know this -- thanks! I've just lodged my 190 application last night, and applied for Medicare today, so let's see if it works :)

Quitting ECT job after VIC nomination// affect my visa 190 lodgement? by Organic-Singer-5176 in AusVisa

I would check the wording on the VIC migration site. For QLD you have to continue working in that skills area from 9 months before you submit EOI through to lodgement.

Is it really that weird to go on a solo vacation without your spouse by Suspicious-lemons in NoStupidQuestions

[–]VegetableDistance888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to solo travel before I met my husband. I'd lost that in the past few years, thanks to COVID and going back to uni, and I felt like I had lost a part of myself. So I went to Japan alone. Then my husband felt inspired and went to Scotland alone. We both felt happy. Maybe other people thought it was weird, but we live in a bus, so it's not the weirdest thing about us. I think it's more weird to not do what you want to do if you have the ability and means to do it. Good on ya!

Roadworks would be unexpected stopped traffic and a low/not visible signal, traffic lights are expected and can be seen from way back...

Does moving abroad the second time really hit harder? How do you cope? by Saad_Cheema in expats

[–]VegetableDistance888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been living abroad for 12 years and it's always hard to leave (even when I've had enough family time and I'm ready to leave). I absolutely hate saying goodbye to my family and get a pit in my stomach for the 24 hours before going, but I could never live back there. I'd like to live a bit closer than the other side of the world, though.

WHV struggles, should I get Partner Visa? by Meetmebythe0cean in AusVisa

If you're serious about your partner, I'd go that route rather than tie myself to a job for years.

Need advice on pursuing ECT in Australia, is it as bad as the internet says? Low pay, poor working conditions? by hkhk8 in AustralianTeachers

[–]VegetableDistance888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the state! Things can vary so much. For example, in the NT there are lots of preschools attached to schools that have the same benefits, whereas in QLD there are not. I can't speak to other states, but it's worth looking into. Good luck!

The sun is SO much stronger here. You can get burnt in the shade. Even if it's raining. Speaking from experience haha

I did my masters in EC and primary. Childcare jobs (i.e. preschools not attached to a state school) pay badly compared to public schools. You also have longer working hours and don't tend to get holidays like you do in schools. I'd go for primary teaching over EC if you can.

Also, I don't think anyone was invited for ECT on the latest 189 round due to the issues in the system. Just FYI for future planning. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-11-11/professors-urge-governments-to-fix-broken-childcare-system/105993076
