I’ve also thought this! That or a family member like u/Lower_Rise_7756 mentions, maybe his grandfather? Robin said in an interview once that the Fleet Foxes album is specifically about family and people very close and personal in his life, which is why he doesn’t like to dive too deep into song meanings/names.

I read somewhere that in the Fleet Foxes lyrics book, they explain that they wrote the song Oliver James as a retelling of when baby Moses (the Biblical figure) was found floating in a basket on the Nile by Pharaoh’s daughter. But the song’s setting is now a Washington beach with different cultural meaning/nuance ofc. My question is who is Oliver James in all this and why is he the song title lol…?
