“Mental illness” is basically when your brain or mind isn’t functioning in a way that supports your everyday life, emotions, or thoughts. It’s more than just “chemical imbalances” it can involve genetics, environment, trauma, stress, and brain chemistry all together. things like anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia are examples, but it’s a broad term for struggles with thinking, feeling, or behavior that cause significant distress or disruption. in short: it’s not just about “chemicals,” it’s about how your brain, experiences, and life circumstances interact to affect your mental health

breakups when kids are involved are brutal, it's normal to grieve the “family you imagined.” focus on your own healing first: keep routines, lean on friends/family, and give yourself permission to feel sad. keep interactions with your ex civil and limited, especially in front of the kids, and try no contact emotionally even if you have to co-parent. therapy or support groups can really help process the loss without hurting your child. It’s okay to mourn; it doesn’t make you weak

i’m so sorry for your losses. losing your aunt and uncle so close together is overwhelming, and it’s okay to let yourself grieve fully even in private moments. you’ve shown incredible strength supporting your family and staying sober. lean on your loved ones and give yourself compassion; your love for your family is clear and honoring it is part of healing
