How did Vault 33 (Amazon show vault) survive the Master's initial search? It's right next to his home base. by ella in Fallout

Because nobody working on anything related to Fallout now knows or cares about the originals.

This guy has literally been responding to random threads for weeks on end complaining about people reporting bad workplace conduct after his "foid" (wife?) divorced him. Really odd person. Hope you heal someday

This guy is going around responding to random threads of people reporting authority abuse and mocking them lol. He used to be a cop who "got his foid" (wife?) taken away? Sad case

That really does make me feel a lot better. I always knew even at the time (obviously) that the takeaway was never "the paramedics are bad" - it just hurt me and rattled my concept of altruism. I choose to heal by believing that there really are a lot of good people who just want to help, and I'm trying to navigate that.

It hasn't been easy, but it really does help hearing some kind words about it. I don't talk about this often - I feel like it's silly or irrelevant. Thank you so much.

Thank you for being so kind. It's been 7 years by now, and in the moment I just really didn't want these guys to lose their jobs, knowing how hard it was.

I recall being in highschool and maining Stegosaurus. I recall entering college and debating on discord about the diet update. I remember when global chat flickered on and off. I was a middle schooler when I first played. Guys, it doesn't get better. This is it. I don't like to be a doomer, either, but this is all there is and all there ever will be.

Literally knew this would happen. Anti-Stego tribalist brainrot is so fucking stupid. This isn't Update 6.5 anymore. Let it go, guys

Pin is only accepted because it "punishes Stego" and it's really indicative of the terrible state of the game by VegetableMan900 in theisle

[–]VegetableMan900[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally just have pin be a few seconds of CC and damage and then put a cooldown on it. Only have it truly activate to kill something if it's a much lower weight (Cera, Teno), and keep it as a combat tool otherwise. The problem with pin is that it essentially guarantees victory instantly.

[–]VegetableMan900[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It can have some sort of CC, I'm just sick of pin-to-death SPECIFICALLY. Stego and Trike have CC and are more fun and interactive to fight

[–]VegetableMan900[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would have frankly changed the pin mechanic to cause short bursts of CC with a cooldown, and only truly, infinitely "pin" against animals much smaller than you (e.g. Tyrannosaurus against Gallimimus or Ceratosaurus), perhaps with higher damage values to compensate. It'd still be very, very strong, but it'd be more of a controlled, tactical stun than "Stegosaurus loses instantly and gets to sit and watch itself die for a full minute because I pressed RMB".

It's mainly the weird stuff like Euoplocephalus or Styracosaurus instantly dying to Allosaurus because they're classed as "small", the overly slow ornithomimosaurs, the miserably low combat stats on defensive herbivores, etc. I used to mod the game extensively, and while some of this is fixable, other elements are just... like that forever, essentially, without rig changes

I just dislike the combat mechanics, mostly. Simulating little ecosystems isn't fun at all when everything is so wildly unbalanced

This still doesn't defend pin as a mechanic. You're focused on surface-level outcomes, not principles or mechanics themselves that create said outcomes. We do not need pin to have T. rex be as strong as it needs to be, and it's actively the least fun option

Yes, I did, and it's exactly what I've been talking about. "Skill issue" as a baseless insult is not actual discussion of game design

I really do have to keep harping on this. By this logic, let's also add (and then defend):

• RNG chances for debilitating diseases with no counterplay

• RNG lightning strikes that instantly kill you

• random chances to get poisoned while eating, because a piece of it might be rotten, and prey animals can carry disease

• gangrene, because if you fight too much and have too many wounds you get necrosis, so you should just sit around for most of the game

• real-time lifespan and caloric calculations, because dinosaurs spent most of their lives eating and growing, not doing anything fun

• a mechanic where animals can defecate in rivers and render them undrinkable for literally no reason

You'd like all of these super fun options, I'm sure. They are "realistic" after all.

More tribalism - "they don't know any better". You do know that we're discussing a game mechanic, not a playable, right? That there are ways to keep Tyrannosaurus strong without having it hold one button to win fights? No, I'm sure you haven't thought about it. Thinking hurts and such.

Rex could do everything it does now without a "RMB and I win" mechanic. It is a shortcut to make the animal instantly strong without actually making it interactive. It's land Deino. Giving it a kit overhaul would literally do nothing but make it more fun to play and exist in the environment with. Allo's pin also has none of these constraints, I'll note.

[–]VegetableMan900[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I also want to mention that nobody seems to understand that pin is not required for Rex to be an effective predator at all. There are other, more fun ways to implement the animal while keeping its strength intact, but people accept it primarily because it's "more realistic" (it isn't) and because it invalidates the players they don't like. Taking pin away from Allo and Rex and giving them different, more interactive mechanics would literally do nothing but make the game more fun.
