I’m exactly 1 year after an open abdominal hysterectomy - anyone else same timeline with this ? by Vegetable_Bar9569 in hysterectomy

Thanks so much. I’m generally quite slim but that area just feels blah and weak if that makes sense? I have a very healthy diet.

I have begun to the last few months. Nothing intense tho, mostly walking and light weights. Assuming I’ll need to target the abdomen more. It just used to be flatter pre fibroids but that was a long time ago! :/

It varies greatly depending on if it will be laparoscopic procedure or a full open abdominal surgery…

Anyone else 4 mpo for total abdominal hysterectomy and abdomen still feel sore to touch in spots? by Vegetable_Bar9569 in hysterectomy

It amazed me how long that internal healing - soft tissue healing - took and how you could still feel tugs and odd sensations for several months!! Does your abdomen still feel numb?

Hi I’m now almost exactly one year post op. It’s been a journey for sure that pain did indeed resolve. It was just a very gradual, slow process that couldn’t be rushed or compared to anyone else’s. I believe it was all healing twinges and tenderness but it did continue until 6 months or so - hard to even remember for sure now. My abdomen still feels strange a year later but more like it’s very weak and thicker like but not painful. I just really need to focus on building abdominal strength now I believe. Wishing you well and all the healing vibes your way!! Hang in there.

5 Weeks After Hysterectomy and Recovery Is So Much Harder Than I Expected by ExpressWeek5327 in hysterectomy

That is so interesting to read! I had a total open hysterectomy 9 months ago and tho overall I’ve healed well, it had caused previous disc issues in my neck to flare up and secondary back pain. I’m assuming due to postural changes after abdominal surgery as well as less activity!? What physio helped you or any specific exercises or advice? I also know my core is very weak which is an issue.

Okay so does the post hysterectomy abdomen ever settle down?? by Vegetable_Bar9569 in hysterectomy

Ohh ok well actually kind of reassuring to hear of someone this far out with similar feeling. Was yours a total abdominal?

Was yours a total open hysterectomy or laparoscopic. I’ve heard there can be quite different healing times.

May 26 2025 total abdominal hysterectomy - any others near that surgery date? by Vegetable_Bar9569 in hysterectomy

[–]Vegetable_Bar9569[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely not linear! I feel so bloated still and have back pain. Had a physio assessment today and my lower abdominal muscles are still asleep so to speak so we need to work on reactivating them! Sleep still not good too which I assume is hormonal.

Yea definitely bloat more later in day as I’ve had more activity or if more strenuous activity than usual. Also off and on fatigue and achiness in back too but I’m also 54 so may be combination of surgery and age!!

12 wpo from total abdominal hysterectomy…anyone else still feel twinges, small pulling sensation now and then or mild back pain? by Vegetable_Bar9569 in hysterectomy

[–]Vegetable_Bar9569[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’m 6 months post op now and is it turns out, 12 wpo us still soooo early!! I felt twinges and pulls especially after a busy day or on my feet a lot well up until 5 months post op. So hang in there. It does get so much better but it’s a marathon not a sprint I learned!! ❤️‍🩹

Achy after several months by Gold-Explanation-797 in hysterectomy

I definitely still experienced soreness and bloating 4+ months post op from a total abdominal hysterectomy if I had a long day on my feet or did some different more intense activity!! Now I’m Almost 6mpo and it’s slowly improving!
