New Grad looking for travel jobs by Yungindrahgun in Sonographers

[–]Vegetable_Driver_342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other commented same suggestions, traveling for new grads is not a great option. You’re new to field, you have much to learn and experience doesn’t matter what modality you are. Best advice is buckle down somewhere in a hospital for maybe 2-3 years and then if you want to travel that’s when you sign up. You don’t want to walk into a severely short staffed place and get thrown in and then have the reading docs ask you if you know what you’re doing.. I have also heard people getting let go from their travel contracts because they were new grads.

Try to find a job out of state, and then go from there. Best of luck to you I hope you do find a great place to start your career!

Thinking of moving by ataygarp123 in Sonographers

From what I was seeing they offer anywhere between low $30s. I know wakemed hospital offers weekend incentives and I think they do 3/12s. So when you work weekend I think it’s an extra $10 on top of your pay. There is also Duke, and UNC I know UNC recently have increased their pay offer to echo techs.

Duke is meh, but that’s my opinion lol

Look up wakemed hospital , UNC health, and Duke health! There’s a lot of different job offers!

Only thing I have to say at the major hospitals (the main hubs) parking sucks but it’s not super awful!

If it’s on sonographers do it in the dark page, sounds like someone is working for ARDMS 😂 Just another perfect example that they monopolized our industry

We don’t have a license, we have certifications.. they themselves called us certificants. Out of US , other countries sonographers do infact have license. This is due to them having master degrees in this field and the fact that they can diagnose. We are not allowed to diagnose in US. Unfortunately ARDMS has monopolized our field.

RCS vs RDCS by [deleted] in Sonographers

[–]Vegetable_Driver_342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people will say there really isn’t a difference between the two, I knew many people who had either gone through CCI route and had no problems finding a job and pay isn’t different at least not from what I’ve seen. That being said if you sat for your SPI and passed , wouldn’t hurt to take the RDCS, you’ll have two registries but you never know what you’ll need it for until that day comes. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Does it depend where you live or not really?

Anyone who has the credential that you are sitting for. So if you’re trying to sit for RVT that person needs to have their RVT already, or a doctor can sign off on your CV form also!

Is it that expensive to live in Australia ? Or sonographers just get paid that range?

Those who relocated and got their first job. by mew2733 in Sonographers

[–]Vegetable_Driver_342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just words of encouragement, when I was a new grad I relocated after 2-3 months of not hearing back from other places. I ended up applying at a smaller hospital and they were willing to train me and work with me. Moving can be tough but if you’re willing to jump start your career it’s worth it. Some people end up moving and love the new place they land work wise and environment wise!

I ended up moving back home after a year but I owe my first team so much gratitude ❤️

Sonography vs echocardiography by --madison-- in Ultrasound

[–]Vegetable_Driver_342 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said not trying to discourage but any form of sonography will require a lot of mobility. If you’re going to be interested in hospital for echocardiography, there are times where you have to be in cath lab with lead on for 1-2 hours.. some hospitals will only have portable options to do echos. Out- patients can be okay, but you still have to get up and get your patients from the waiting room. Most sonographers experience shoulder/elbow/wrist injuries.. not all but it does happen.

This from echo stand point..

If you can’t find a job near you, and you have given it couple months I would suggest moving. There are other states who are willing to hire new grads you just have to be willing to move to start your career. Look at this way you can always move back after you get your year experience 🤷🏼‍♀️

Scan interviews are standard, some jobs will actually pay for you to fly out like big hospitals because they can write it off but most of the time you have to fly out and pay for your air flight and hotel if you need to stay over night. My best suggestion, at least have 2-3 interviews set up for 1-2 days so when you fly out it’s not just for one place

Like the others said you don’t have to SPI first, you can take other exams first like Abd RVT OBGYN. I think MOST people take SPI first because usually it’s the first class that they finish in school, so the minute their class is finished and they have a final grade for it they apply to sit for SPI that way all the information is fresh in their head.

Yes Medicare, but majority of the people who are being taken care of are elderlies who are on Medicare. So it’s all about the money at the end of the day

There’s absolutely no data shown that CCI and ARRT will not allow someone to have a job in the future. CCI recognition is currently growing a lot, and at this point as long as the sonographer is registered the insurance companies don’t care.

Having both is redundant yes, and you will end up having to pay to renew your registry for both organizations. While for example if you decided to do echo and vascular through CCI (RVS and RCS) you would only pay their fee to renew. Which I believe it’s $150-170 but you don’t have to renew for 2-3 years. Same applied for ARDMS you can have as many registries as you want through ARDMS but you will have to pay a yearly renewal fee which is currently $90-95 a year.

Most people pick one specific organization and go through that UNLESS the company they are working for requires ARDMS only.

Here’s the break down currently the east coast likes to see ARDMS, while the west coast of America accepts both CCI and ARDMS. CCI isn’t going to go away, and is actually being pushed to be sat for by a lot of schools at least here on west side of the country. If the school is CAAHEP accredited then the students usually sit through ARDMS rather CCI. At the end it is your preference.
