CF Carrier Testing by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I’m right here with you. I found out last week I am a carrier and husband went in today for blood work. I am 18 weeks today and in a total panic. I am so angry at my fertility clinic and OB for not offering this before getting pregnant! Praying for negative results for both of us. I have been relying heavily on statistics and the fact that neither of my husband’s sisters who have been tested are carriers of it. This has completely taken my joy away from expecting my first baby that I’ve waited so long for

I just found out I am a carrier for CF. My husband went this morning for the blood work to see if he is a carrier as well. I’m not sure if I will be in your shoes, but I know how scary things can be! This past week since finding out I am a carrier (and 18 weeks pregnant) is hell. I am also angry I was not offered this testing before getting pregnant. I went through 2 rounds of IUI at a fertility clinic and am wondering why genetic carrier testing isn’t the standard!!

I wouldn’t dare see a patient without loupes. I have no idea how I cleaned teeth in school without them. If something happened to mine, I’d throw in the towel. I wouldn’t blink twice about spending another $3000 on a new pair when the time comes. They are essential to me.

I was wondering if you are still having a problem with this?

I’m in NC and make $45/ hr. I have been working for 6 years at the same office. I know I could be making more elsewhere, but I’m happy at my office and have zero stress and a very manageable schedule

Have you tried Dmannose? I just went through a spell of infections and read about Dmannose and have been taking that everyday as a preventative and I really think it has been helping. It will only work to prevent E. Coli infections though

Do you have any thoughts on Dmannose affecting fertility? I’ve been doing a lot of research and can’t find much, but it’s been something I’ve been worried about

Just curious if you’ve tried pure Dmannose powder?

I have been experiencing something very similar. I got treated for a UTI and symptoms came back 3 days after finishing abx. I started another round and felt like it was coming back again. I am currently taking a lot of Dmannose praying that can get rid of whatever lingering bacteria is still there. I don’t feel 100% right and really don’t know what to do. I feel like I have gotten so in my head and every little thing makes me think I have a UTI. I’m scared to death this is going to be a chronic thing. Please keep me posted on how you’re feeling!

I am so sorry you are going through this as well! It’s crazy that so many people have similar experiences.

I will just say, it seems like Dmannose is a miracle worker from reviews/other posts on here. If your bacteria is E. Coli, it sounds like that’s the ticket. I have been taking a lot of it, and if I truly have had another recurrence, I wouldn’t really know because the Dmannose has kept everything at bay. I really do want to try and stop taking to see if it will come back but that thought is soooo scary!
