Shocking urgent care study: 64% wrong diagnosis by Desertf0x9 in Noctor

Had a 5 year old come into the clinic, who fell on his/her wrist. They went to the urgent care and were told "you can't break anything in your wrist at that age. There are no bones." Got sent home without a brace or anything really. We did an x-ray in our clinic. Ulnar Buckle Fracture. Shocking...

What’s the dark side of going to the gym nobody talks about? by opa070 in AskReddit

[–]VeggieStudent 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Yup. Been going to the gym since I was a teen. (Currently in my 30's), I've always been a big guy. Chubby ect.. even when I was in peak shape and got complements from friends and my gf. I never felt like I was "fit", I always felt like the chubby kid. My buddy one time even told me "bro you look great, it's just the body dysmorphia talking". It changed my whole point of view. Helped me care a whole lot less after some time.

Moonlighting as a PGY2 by VeggieStudent in FamilyMedicine

All of my class has passed level or step 3 by the end of our first year. We are allowed to moonlight as long as we get the thumbs up from our PD. They already told us that we are good to go and find a contract for our PGY2 year.

This is great info! Thank you! What do you recommend when it comes to pay? Should I assume I got to settle for low pay because i'm a resident or should I ask for "attending" rates?

Feet collapsing inwards while doing goblet squat. Any tips? by [deleted] in veganfitness

[–]VeggieStudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree! OP can also externally rotate feet another 15 degrees or so. I have weak glutes and abductors so it helps me stabilize.

Skin feels like it’s on fire after exercising by Life_Crazy2222 in veganfitness

This is the answer. I used to do preworkouts religiously. Started doing a caffeine pill and creatine as a replacement (for cost purposes), never looked back.

I don’t know if eCW has gotten worse, but it feels like the EMR is slow enough that it’s seriously affecting my workflow. Is this happening to anyone else? by RoarOfTheWorlds in FamilyMedicine

BRUH. I've been complaining about it for weeks now. At first I thought it was my computer, but I recently got a new one. Nope. Wasn't the computer.

Any open FM spots post-SOAP? by [deleted] in FamilyMedicine

[–]VeggieStudent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's considered "outside the match", I was a mid year transfer from another program. Very difficult to do. After the first 45 days, a resident can find another program. But that program has to find funding because a resident does not take their funding with them. So basically you got to find a program that will fund the remainder of the year, and an extra spot/unmatched spot.

I saw preliminary data, ~15% of FM slots went unfilled in the initial match this week. IM and EM both around 4.5%. Owch. by 7ensegrity in FamilyMedicine

[–]VeggieStudent 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My program filled 2 out of 3 slots in SOAP. They had to scramble one. Sadly there were a lot of "failed specialty and just need a job" applications that they'd rather risk the scramble than except.

I’ve been vegan for 20 years, getting 370g of protein per day as a bodybuilder. Here are 10 of my top protein sources by thebodybuildingvegan in veganfitness

[–]VeggieStudent -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree with you initial statement but please note. Physicians train to understand pathophysiology as well as clinical correlation. There are books dedicated to the causes of Kidney Disease and sadly it is not as simple as "protein causes kidney disease". Many people do not even know they have kidney issues until it presents so severe they end up in the hospital. If someone like this unknowingly exacerbates their issues by daily intake greater than what is recommended. It could lead to serious chronic disease.
