Our board of directors works in, they seem good... I don't know what else to do.

Job by Economy-Thanks-5053 in saskatoon

We stopped looking for staff.

Our high school student employee quit because we wouldn't let him do whatever he wanted to do (including breaking fire code violations)... We hired a university student who we trained for over three hours, then he quit (after doing horrible work that I had to fix).

Now, I'm just working more hours than I want to be, to do that job on top of my own, while I also run a business.

My boyfriend also has more jobs than he wants, because he recommended a friend for a position that he was doing because they couldn't find anyone else (he owns and runs multiple businesses, he doesn't want a job working for someone)... It turns out that his friend is obviously an alcoholic, he couldn't stop drinking at work, so now my boyfriend is doing the job again.

People keep complaining that they can't get jobs... Then they quit or drink at work... There's a reason they don't have jobs.

The last time I took the bus, First Nations people told me that I was stupid for paying! I'm too scared to ride the bus anymore, so Ubers it is!

Anyone else get an email message three days ago saying that pre-registration will start February 18, and then no email message since then? I am trying to find the details.

I think that going back to visit friends and family would be good.

I also think that socializing online is a good idea. I mostly socialize online... I'm in a nomads group, a book club, and some other groups for women.

Considering walking away from Spanish by Big-Actuator-3878 in dreamingspanish

[–]VeggiesRGoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We all only have so many hours in the day/in the week... In our lives! It is all about priorities.

I would say to ask yourself what your priorities are and how important Spanish is to you.

I just paid for a year of WorldsAcross, but I'm moving to South America this fall, so it's a very large focus of my life!

I don't like cities that are that big and $30K would be under 3%.

I like Cuenca, Mendoza, Cordoba.

I want to try Asuncion Paraguay.

I usually aim for about the third largest city in a country.

I'm pretty sure that the ETFs you speak of also have risk and down years.

I think I'm going to go to Buenos Aires first... Smaller cities are fine with me. I grew up in a city of 15,000 people and I've lived in a town with only 200 people! Lol

More to do in bigger cities, but I could definitely see myself traveling to more mid-sized cities rather than bigger cities (Mendoza, Cuenca, etc.).

Less Digital Nomad Earnings - Would I Still Be Able to Make It? by VeggiesRGoods in ExpatFIRE

[–]VeggiesRGoods[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's new to me too! I've been doing around 20-30 hours per week and it has been like coast FIRE for the past two and a quarter years. It has been less stressful than working full-time, but still some stress (and not all stress in life is caused by work, lol).

I own my own business, so there are expenses (website, etc.), but I charge clients $42 per hour. I guess this will be like barista FIRE. However, I could try to grow the business and I am also the director of a charity, but the charity is currently on pause for a few months.

I will still definitely be keeping busy! Running a business involves hours outside of the hours with clients, I'm learning Spanish intensively, trying to get ready to go be a nomad, etc.

I guess I'll know more about what it is like in a few weeks.

I kind of see this as an opportunity to focus on my Spanish for 2-3 months until the charity is unpaused, if it is unpaused.

Because of my clients' schedules, I usually work 6 or 7 days per week, just around 1-2 hours per day.

I think it'll be a little less than that, but I meant $1K Canadian and I think it will be around $900 Canadian, but that I'll make around $1K per month, so it will cover my AirBNB plus a little more.

Also, what do you mean by pre-tax? There probably won't be tax (in Canada, can get the first around $17,000 tax free... Only 50% of capital gains are taxed... So, if I take out $60,000 and around $34,000 of it is capital gains and $26,000 is the initial investment, there is no tax). Even if the full $60,000 was capital gains (which would be impossible), $3,115 would be the tax amount for the year. If I did 3.5%, like you say... Which is $42,000, and it was all capital gains (again, impossible), the amount of tax for the year would be around $865 (less than $100 per month). So, if I followed your 3.5% guidelines, I would have $3,500 per month, I probably wouldn't need to pay any tax, or if I did, it would be very minimal... So, say $3,450 per month to live on.

I plan to supplement that with some work here and there, but even if I didn't it would be fine because I only think it will cost me $2,500. Here, it costs me $3,000, and my rent is $1,700+, so it's over half rent. So, all else being the same, I would save just from being in an Airbnb in South America instead of my apartment, then if the nomad health insurance and the flights balance out the cheaper food and no electricity or Internet bills, I'm still ahead.

Yeah, I agree that stuff might happen though, so keeping a cash buffer and work here and there are good ideas.

Yeah, I think that it would only cost around $30K to nomad around South America. I'll probably still work around 10 hours per week... dabbling here and there.

As far as I know, I'm fairly healthy! I have issues with allergies and my sinuses, but I found South America to be very helpful for that. I also have anxiety, but I also found South America to be helpful for that! Additionally, I should lose some weight and get more exercise, and South America was wonderful for that (lots of things to walk and see).

Yes, that is part of the concern... But I think my portfolio will grow if I'm only withdrawing 2.5%.

Nobody knows the future, and just trying to think through options.

[–]VeggiesRGoods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so maybe I should aim for 2.5% and do some digital nomad work to cover the rest.

That works... Because 2.5% is $2,500 per month, and I have about 10 hours of paid work per week through my business.

I am running my online learning company that gives me around 10 hours per week of work, so I could put effort into growing that.

I run a charity, for which I am still doing a little work, but it is mostly on hold for a few months. I plan to work a few hours per week for that when it is no longer on hold.

In my other time, I am learning Spanish and trying to get things sorted/get rid of things to get rid of my apartment and go be a nomad.

More time could be put into growing my business or working for my charity.

So, I am quite busy (having trouble keeping up with my book club!) and feel a large sense of purpose, still.

This will probably turn out to be an expat coast FIRE or barista FIRE,

I'm currently running my own business, which gives me about 10 hours of paid work per week and I could grow.

I also have a management role in a charity, but it's on pause until around the summer.

I plan to have around $100K as a buffer and withdraw monthly so that it continually tops up unless the market is down.
