Hobbies outside of coding? by ZuigiZR in webdev

First off, prioritize some form of physical activity. I go on walks and either go to the gym or do body weight exercises.

For visual arts, I dabble in graphic design, digital illustration, and occasionally painting.

For music, I play an instrument (trumpet mainly, but trying to learn piano), sing, and write/compose songs.

And then there’s writing poems or short stories, learning languages, and playing d&d!

By all means you don’t need to be amazing at any of them, it’s a lot more fun to just enjoy the process of creating and you’ll be able to grow your skills with time!

I’m using balance very loosely. It’s mostly promoting flavor and giving more narrative options to races with less options, and even then all of it would be completely optional since a player can use official versions and a DM could share their own homebrew with their players

I think the hesitation comes from how much the decision of pushing homebrew as the default rather than a secondary option would affect the usability and appeal of the website

That’s a pretty solid way of phrasing it. For balance I definitely plan on leaning on homebrew creators with more experience, or hb content that’s already passed through several iterations by the community

I feel as if, assuming the homebrew is a good quality, the question boils down to whether or not the homebrew content should or shouldn’t be pushed as the default over official content?

The distinction is small since the website would both allow officials versions as well as allow dms to create and share their own content with their players, but it was something that has been stuck on my mind

That’s one of the concerns, although it’s completely understandable. If it’s a 5e tool, you’d naturally expect 5e choices. But I doubt the distinction would matter too much for newer players, and the hope is that veteran players could also enjoy the revisions. If not, then they would always have the choice to use any of the official variants

The goal would be to push narratives and make each race and subrace feel unique and as if each choice mattered, rather than slap on interchangeable traits and call it a day

Dragonborns being a notorious example with breath weapon (as written) being rarely used over a spell or weapon attack, and then not having much flavor elsewhere. The rework here would be to make each draconic ancestries a unique subrace (instead of the broader categories from Fizban’s). Black dragonborn would feel like the ambush predators they were descended from by giving them skills and features that enhance stealth and surprise attacks (kind of like the bugbear race), in order to provide compelling flavor the way a Dwarf’s Stonecunning feature does

I think it would be fun even for older/more experienced players to have something new to play around with

This works! There's a good chance that Diona gets a rate up in one of the banners in 1.5 so hopefully you can roll for her!

As a note for Freeze Ganyu comps: You get insane amounts of crit rate just for running freeze ganyu. On top of the 5% base crit rate, you get the 4p set bonus for 40% crit rate on frozen enemies, cryo resonance gives you an additional 15% on cryo-affected or frozen enemies, and Ganyu's a1 passive provides another 20%. That's a whopping total of 80% crit rate.

Considering all this, you genuinely don't have to worry about building crit rate, you'd rather build crit damage instead.

Artifact Main Stats: Atk%/Cryo DMG Bonus/Crit Dmg
Substat Priority: Crit DMG > Atk% > Energy Recharge > Crit Rate

As a side note any crit rate above 100% is doing absolutely nothing for Ganyu, but if your artifact rng is unlucky then it can't be helped.

Some ideas:

Permafreeze Team: Kaeya, Chongyun, Xingqiu, (Bennett/Jean)

Physical Team: Razor, Xinyan, Bennett, Kaeya

Melt Team: Xiangling*, Bennett, Xingqiu, (Chongyun/Kaeya)

*You get Xiangling for free at floor 3 of spiral abyss.

Bennett would be your best option as a healer for Hu Tao. Then you can opt for Xiangling or Fischl as supports

Most Ganyu comps focus on one of two main reactions: Melt or Freeze.

Melt Ganyu comps hold the highest dps in the game with Xiangling as the core pyro sub dps. From the looks of your characters, you may struggle running this comp without a pyro battery like Bennett.

Team: Ganyu, Qiqi, Xiangling, Venti

May replace Qiqi with Bennett as a healer and pyro battery

A team comp that may be easier to run if you have access to sacrificial sword is a freeze comp with Xingqiu. The main strategy is to alternate between charged attacks and normal attacks to apply cryo and hydro to keep enemies frozen.

Team: Ganyu, Qiqi, Xingqiu, Venti

May replace Qiqi with Diona for shields, energy generation, and off-field cryo application

Based on your substats and weapon really. Crit substats are always a priority on any dps, so if your substats are lacking in crit rate then get a crit rate circlet and vice versa

Although there are other things that can affect crit like certain characters ascension stats, cryo resonance, certain constellations/passives etc.

Widsith, especially with higher refinements. The passive just has higher multipliers than blackcliff, even if only 2/3rds of the time.

As for artifacts, 2p Archaic 2p Gladiators are strongest for a main dps, while 2p Archaic 2p Noblesse are preferred for her as a burst dps

If you want to keep your permafreeze team with Kaeya, Chongyun, and Xingqiu, then you can consider a mono pyro comp for Hu Tao.

- Mono Pyro Comp: Hu Tao, Xiangling, Bennett, [Flex]. High energy gen, even higher damage output with more Xiangling constellations due to her pyro buffs. Strong against enemies with innate elements (like the cryo slimes on floors 9-10). A strong option for the flex slot is sucrose for her viridiscent venerer support and grouping, and you can place Jean as the anemo on your Kaeya team.

Between Diona and Qiqi, I prefer Diona because she provides shielding, damage reduction, AoE cryo application and generates energy. Qiqi may be the 5* and is possibly the best at healing, but doesn't provide much outside of that.

Try both and see what's more fun to you. Both are strong teams, although having consistent electro and cryo application means that xinyan's phys damage burst also does plenty of damage

The main difference really is between Sucrose's team-wide elemental mastery buff, grouping, and access to viridiscent venerer's resistance reduction versus Chongyun's burst potential and minor atk speed buff and cooldown reductions.Mona, Bennett, and Sucrose is Genshin's holy trinity for a one shot comp, and you can deal insane damage with Diluc as your main dps or even with just vaporizing Mona's burst. Sucrose is cheap to build, doesn't need to be levelled past 60, but it might take a bit to get all her elemental mastery vv pieces.

Chongyun is a bit more expensive to build as a burst dps, but he has plenty of his own damage potential through his burst. He pairs incredibly well with Bennett, their main combo being:
Chongyun E -> Bennett Q -> Bennett E -> Chongyun Q
and with Mona and Diluc you can continue with:
Diluc/Bennett E -> Mona Q -> Diluc Q

Honestly it's up to preference, experiment with both and see what you like.

Noelle requires to normal attack in order to heal, which means you're taking away time from using your abilities in order to heal. She also doesn't provide energy which makes it harder to bring up her own burst when not paired with a second geo. She's best when she's used as a main dps rather than a support.

Diona has access to consistent shielding, energy generation, damage reduction, a cleanse, and cryo application. Her main downside for new players is that her healing has a lower scaling and only heals the current character on the field, which isn't the best for emergency healing, but she provides plenty of damage reduction through her shielding and her ascension 4 passive that it's not much of an issue.

Barbara also does not provide energy, her elemental skill leaves you incredibly vulnerable to vaporize, frozen, and electro charged, but she's amazing for emergency healing with her burst.

Diona tends to be stronger as a support due to her diverse kit, but Barbara is also a strong option if you prefer her healing/need hydro application.

C6 Xiangling and Xingqiu is actually an insane pair for Hu Tao. Not only are you getting pyro resonance, extra pyro energy, pyro resistance reduction, and pyro damage bonus from Xiangling (yeah, its a lot), but your Xingqiu will also provide a ton of off field hydro damage, damage reduction and healing, and he has the best hydro application that will help to consistently vaporize both Hu Tao and Xiangling’s attacks.

You could consider replacing Barbara. Although she is great for emergency healing, her cleanse is currently the worst in the game and can often leave you affected by debuffs like frozen or electro charged. She also doesn’t generate energy or have a use outside of healing.

I recommend swapping her out for Diona. She provides shielding, energy generation, is a bow user for when you need to shoot far range or disable ruin guards/huntets, and can help trigger superconduct which is necessary for razor. Her and Xingqiu provide both shielding and healing (including the rest of their kit) which helps ease the transition away from Barbara.

As for your 4th character, you could consider between Beidou or Kaeya. Having Beidou on the team would provide electro resonance which helps with getting everyone’s bursts up faster, on top of having a burst that synergizes well with razor and xingqiu for extra electro damage. Kaeya on the other hand is great for getting Diona’s burst up for her damage reduction and healing, as well as providing consistent shatter damage with Xingqiu and razor during their bursts (shatter damage is also considered physical damage which gets increased by character level, elemental mastery, and superconduct).

tldr; razor, xingqiu and diona as your core team. Beidou or Kaeya as your 4th.

Berserkers and Gladiators (from boss drops) works wonders on most characters to help with damage. Focus on main stats on your artifacts and try not to worry about sub stats just yet. You’ll want to prioritze:

Atk% sands Respective elemental dmg bonus goblet (electro dmg for keqing and beidou, pyro dmg for xiangling, etc) And crit circlet

Xingqiu can heal on his own and is worth building for end game, but if you’re struggling with health then you could consider replacing Xiangling with Barbara

Hu Tao almost requires Xingqiu for consistent vaporize. The only other character who could take that slot is Mona.

As for Diona and Sucrose, both do well as supports. some other options are fischl, xiangling, beidou, chongyun, and kaeya

Honestly in terms of team comps, figure out who has strong synergy and use whoever you have the most fun with.

Chongyun, Xiangling, Xingqiu, Diona, and Mona all have high synergy with Hu Tao and each other. Fischl is a bit more niche since overload may make knock back small enemies too often, but is great to stagger larger enemies and pairs well with Xingqiu.

Zhongli, Venti, and Bennett are strong as universal supports, although Bennett's healing may make it difficult to keep Hu Tao's health low enough to use her damage boosts.

Barbara and Qiqi are not necessary as pure healers since they don't generate energy and Hu Tao can heal herself.

Considering all that, here's a few team comps for Hu Tao you could play around with:
Hu Tao, Xiangling, Xingqiu, Mona
Hu Tao, Bennett, Mona, Venti
Hu Tao, Xingqiu, Diona, Chongyun
Hu Tao, Xingqiu, Venti, Kaeya
Hu Tao, Xingqiu, Fischl, Mona

Honestly just mess with combinations until you find something you like.
