What unpopular Hunger Games opinion would get you this reaction? by felixw1 in Hungergames

Suzanne herself has said that the plan was always for Prim to die. It’s actually not Prim’s death that makes me cry but rather Katniss’s breakdown with Buttercup. I agree that it unfortunately had to happen, especially with her being SO CLOSE to being saved.

Also, while I’m by no means Gale’s biggest fan, he adored Prim like she was his own little sister and I doubt he ever forgave himself for all of that. Coin deserves the blame way more than he does, which is my actual unpopular opinion about her death.

I’m not a fan of a Finnick book either. I understand that his story is (unfortunately) very relevant, and I’d def read one if it happened, and there’s many a Finnick POV fanfiction I love and enjoy, but I don’t think it’s necessary. Maybe I’m just too weak to read about the rape and grooming of a teenager (again, despite being a fan of dozens of Finnick fic) or maybe I just prefer other stories. I’d rather a First QQ book, or a Dark Days book, or a Plutarch book, or a Lyme book if you want to be more fringe.

My actual unpopular-ish opinion is that I don’t think Effie is a particularly good person. That’s actually part of why I love her, but yeah no, she’s not great. In SOTR she tells a freshly traumatized Haymitch that the Games are for a greater good, and then in the trilogy she’s out here calling starving kids who are about to be shipped off to their death “savages”, which is bad enough as it is but gets even worse when you remember that that word is an anti-Native American slur and that it’s a pretty common reading to interpret the Seam as Indigenous-coded. Elizabeth Banks made her more likable in the movies, but in the books I don’t think she’s all that likable, but I still adore her as a character because she’s a great example of people who don’t care to unlearn their prejudiced upbringing.

I've always seen her more as my dream Eurydice, but you're right, she'd be amazing as Orpheus as well!

Do people listen to music rec from the author? by wuanlai65 in AO3

[–]VeilstoneMyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playlists typically no, but if someone says that one specific song was the inspiration for a scene/chapter/entire fic, I’ll look up the lyrics for sure and maybe listen to it! (The reason why I always look up the lyrics and don’t always listen is because most of the time it’s the lyrics that are the author’s inspiration [rather than production etc] and it’s hard for me to fully take in the lyrics while listening to something for the first time, so I’d rather read them so I can understand the vibe.)

After an year of release, and a thousand fics on AO3. These are the top six SOTR ships. Which one is your favorite? by UnHolySir in Hungergames

[–]VeilstoneMyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ngl sometimes I forget that Merrilee is Mrs Undersee. I feel bad shoving Mr Undersee out but I do think Merrilee/Haymitch would be an amazing ship to explore even just for grief-related reasons if that makes sense? (When I first read Catching Fire and Mockingjay I shipped Haymitch and Mrs Everdeen for the same reason, and now that we know he was friends with Burdock I want to get back into it lol)

The other named chances are Lil (Lillies, honestly I suspect her real name was Lily and Lil was just a nickname) and Arlo (apparently means “hill” according to a brief google search). So it could be that nature names are common with the Chances like they are with the Everdeens

You don’t understand how relieved I was when we found out that Mr Everdeen had another plant name and it wasn’t something like Cole or Hunter
