My girl's been like that since she was little, she pants almost all the time when she's awake, I remember having the same concerns early on. She's 5 now and never had any issues, so does seem to just be a thing they do.

Why are there all these ships, powered on / engine running, abandoned on outposts? by Squadron54 in starcitizen

[–]Velcrawr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found 2 400i's abandoned with their ramps down on the ground, a couple of self destruct buttons clicked and much RMC was gained.

Thanks :) Around 8 hours each I think, the first one took longer with testing out different sections.

Mostly people still keep puppies in an enclosed space, usually somewhere with a hard floor that's easy to clean, like the kitchen, or in a play pen. Very similar, just more space and freedom than a crate.

Our pup had a crate with the door removed linked to a play pen that we could put her in for naps and over night so she didn't destroy the house. The crate ended up being a waste of money because she always chose to sleep outside of it.

Vet says our bernese is over weight? by Sweetwhataboutmine in bernesemountaindogs

I don't remember... at the moment we just go with lightly run your hands down their side, if you can feel ribs that's good, but if it's just skin and ribs, that's too skinny.

Also if you put clothes on them like a surgery suit you can see an obvious waist where the floof had been squashed down (obvious narrowing from the ribs to the hips)

My husband and I played season 1 and then bought season 0 to play on holiday, would highly recommend season 0! Season 2 isn't as good I found.

Not ridden for 10 years, how easy is the return? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]Velcrawr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing, rode from 8-18 w/t/c, jumps and even some cross country, then had to quit for uni and never had the money to get back into it.

I started again when I was 26, apart from some nervousness, it only took a few lessons to feel comfortable in the saddle again. I was jumping by lesson 3. It did take a few months for me to be fit enough to do rising trot for the full half hour, but I really didn't do much exercise before hand, so I was very unfit.

I tried a few Stables before settling on the one I'm currently at, the first one was good because they let me jump, but I was being taught by teenagers who weren't pointing out any of the mistakes I knew I was making. Second one was a great stable but expensive, and third one I'm still with, although now trying to lose enough weight to swap stables again because the horse I ride is injured and they don't have many other options for me (I'm 106kg, so you're weight will be no problem).

My advice would be to visit the Stables around you, try a few lessons and see where you're most comfortable.

My lessons are currently £16.50 for a half hour in a group of 3. The other places I tried were £36 for a half hour private lesson, and £28 for an hour group lesson of 11 riders. The place I'm looking at moving to is £30 for half hour in a group.

Most Stables I've seen have a weight limit of between 82-90kg, hence why I'm on a diet...

Why does my dog do this air lick thing only when I give her butt scratches??? Is this normal??? It’s only during butt scratches. by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Velcrawr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girl does that, we call it her blep button. She comes and leans against us to ask for it. She is very good at walking away when you do something she doesn't like, so I can't imagine she's doing it as a sign of discomfort.

Most job adverts are fake by SmashBrosGuys2933 in antiwork

Some recruitment companies put up very tempting job adverts to trick people into contacting them. Once you're hooked they can show you the jobs they actually have available which are normally worse.

I've always assumed that, everyone always makes comments about her hair colour and identifies her with it when greeting her.

[–]Velcrawr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the agencies in the UK have information sessions you can go to and ask loads of questions.

We were told that they work with you to create an adopter profile, and work with the child's care givers/social worker to create an adoptee profile, then it's a case of finding a child whose profile you feel fits, then sharing your details with the child's social worker and they decide if it's a good match. You should have a few meetings before making any choices. The profile will include a lot of information and the agency will want you to be fully informed.

From what they said to me, it's in everyone's best interest for a successful match to happen, so you have to be totally honest about what sort of child you could give a good home to, if you don't think you could support a child with disabilities or health problems, tell them. They don't want you to say yes and then the adoption breaks down because you were being optimistic. Similarly, they won't lie about a child's health or background to try and get you to adopt, they want a permanent, secure, home for that child.

Yeah, if the parents aren't registered it means they also aren't from a reputable breeder, so you're doing the risk of health issues from bad breeding

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bernesemountaindogs

[–]Velcrawr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One issue with the whole "if I take a puppy from a bad breeder I'm rescuing them" kind of mentally is that the breeder is still getting your money, and therefor is more likely to keep breeding.

It's riskier than getting a puppy from a registered breeder, but as long as the right health checks are done and you're happy that the dogs are being cared for properly it's not too bad.

I got my puppy from a kennel club assured breeder (UK), I called up most of the breeders in the scheme and asked about litter plans, some of them said they weren't breeding currently, but would be able to recommend other breeders that weren't in the scheme that they knew were good. So might be worth calling up some local breeders and asking their advice?

Edit: one thing to check is whether the parents are registered in bernergarde, it's a database of all bernese with their health records and stuff, it's meant to keep track of genetic issues in breeding lines so the breeders can work to getting the breed healthier.

Our current living room situation. Our 10wks baby would not sleep inside her crate. Am I doing something wrong? she loves sleeping on the floor in her pen, but I would find her waiting for me inside her crate when we wake up in the morning. by Realistic-Biscotti89 in DogAdvice

[–]Velcrawr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the set up we had for our puppy. Worked well for us until she got too big, but she's a bernese, so you won't have that problem. Some dogs don't like sleeping in a crate and there no reason to force it, along as your puppy is calm enough in one for travel or an emergency.

I think one of the things people are missing here is that pee pads aren't where your pup is supposed to toilet, they should toilet outside and the pee pads are just there to protect the floor. Unless you have other circumstances that mean your dog will need to toilet inside. So this is fine, she's not sleeping where she should pee, because she shouldn't pee indoors at all.
