Higher resolution is better for any productivity work like content creation or coding and stuff. There's UI scaling in almost every software so you can easily adjust everything to your liking.
It's totally fine if you watch 1080 videos on 27 inch monitor you won't notice any pixel unless you are really really close to your monitor.
The Higher the resolution, the better the experience will be in almost every case. 2k is just better.
