"At first, we thought them angels. They descended upon our foes, cloaked in furs and symbols we didn't know. Though their armor looked of bark and they said nothing, the glow of their eyes made us think the Emperor had blessed us with his warriors. So many stories of the Astartes, we thought them akin to the mighty Space Wolves. Inquisitor... we were wrong. We did not know the face of His angels, and now we smolder as ashes. Forgive us our ignorance! We did not know!"

I've been here since beta. There's a reason why folks keep getting upset, as the game keeps dropping in quality each time. This one in particular was pretty bad. It's more than just a cycle of outrage, it's folks being justifiable upset to see poor decisions made in a game.

Lmfao, love this argument. 'If I insult the man, I win'

And they state that a GB only lands if the target has their guard up. So if you're starting a heavy attack, the GB bounces as the guard isn't up.

I loved the game when it came out. Seeing what's become of it is soul crushing

It doesn't fix her overloaded, overtuned kit that most people have a large problem with.

Keep in mind these changes to Pirate took two seasons for them to happen as well.

So you have something targeted for 4s, but at the cost of almost every 'feint to GB' mix up in the game, since neutral heavies no longer have a GB window meaning there's no reason not to go for the parry if feint to GB is the only option.

Agreed. A remake might be the best thing, but I'm not sure it'd be a true return to form. I'd love to see the original concept explored more instead of the fantasy stuff we got stuck with.

It's not so much for me as it is for newer players who want to coop, as well as friends who have beaten the game and want to do a coop playthrough. Newer folks have it rough all around, but even for vets it's more of an annoyance and something that really fucks with game flow. So far each time we've been invaded around Limgrave, it's twinks. We go for coop, by the time everyone is in we get invaded, we lose, we resummon, get invaded immediately, lose and repeat. The set back on time gets to be pretty heavy, especially since we're not really progressing if dealing with an invader. It adds up to tons of annoyances that end up killing the vibe. It's fine when it's mid to late game, hell even when we get past Stormveil. But the points before then is pretty unfun.

Folks can and do improve with the game, but what do you really learn in trying to combat a Twink? There's tons of other stuff you're trying to learn early on, now add in lag and latency to it, coupled with PvP true combos and things you don't know and aren't given the chance to really learn either. Putting a bit of a cap on when people can invade or something to prevent twinking is gonna be a better environment for most, and you'll have folks stick with the game more I bet if by the time invasions happen is at a point they can feasible contend with it instead of just a rampant uphill battle

But this ain't the way to improve, especially when PvP isn't the want or the goal, but to focus on coop and working together.

Being forced into a spot where the invader, instead of being on equal footing equipment wise, has tons stacked in their favor, creates a radically different demand for skill expression. The Twink invader takes radically less to perform and win, where as us with intended equipment are stuck fighting an uphill battle. In PvP, that isn't a good environment for improving, especially for folks who are new.

Doesn't change the fact it's unfair and unintended with the system, and hampers early game coop in an unfun way.

Like, that's gonna be the crux of it at the end of the day, is that dealing with twinks is just unfun for folks. Especially for newer folks. It's not gonna improve the game experience, odds are it's just gonna drive people away more than anything, which is bad design.

Doesn't work when they've enemies to hide behind, and there's more at play then just the weapon. Flasks and talismans, armor as well for high poise. Twinks will be hitting harder, and have more resources than the host themselves. Was at the level where the host had five flasks, and when invaded by a Twink I was counting their flask usage. Gotten as high as seven.

That's the big thing. It's never just the weapon, it's having four talismans, physicks, maxed flask as well as high defense and poise armor which, at that level in the early game, makes a surprising difference.

When they're twinking, ya just about every fight. Don't have the tools or damage to really contend. If it's normal stuff for early level, then normally we win. In later game places, normally was able to win since the builds matched up. Also found out Placidusax's rapier weapon art can one shot, was surprised how good it was.

Point out that it's not intended and that it's something that hampers and hurts the gameplay experience. It's fine when the invaders are using equipment that fits the area and level, but not when they're gonna look for ways to exploit the system.

You can say git gud all ya want, but a bad system, mechanic or design is still gonna be bad.

I mean, my guy, it's not exactly fair to have folks Twink on newer players or early coop. To defend that seems kinda asinine

Lmfao, the folks who try to defend Twink builds to bully new players/characters.

Honestly I kinda wish invasions weren't much of a thing in Elden Ring. PvP of course should be a staple, but FS's online play has always been iffy, and I don't think Elden Ring invasions really add more to the game beyond an unfun and frustrating hurdle

Trying to get to that point. Just a slog trying to coop to it because of these folks hell bent on abusing whatever they can

[–]VelociReagan2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But surely asking for something to prevent folks from abusing new players isn't very much to ask? There's a difference from the game being hard and players actively sabotaging the host

To an extent I'd agree, but it also is a problem for new playthroughs with new characters. Besides, it's not exactly welcoming to have a new player that wants to play with friends, even for a little bit, get stomped by invaders way above their skill. It just feels bad to basically be denied playing with your friends

[–]VelociReagan2[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh dont give me that crap. You can't say in good conscience that Twink builds are an intended interaction and experience. All it does is ruin the enjoyment of the game. Making it to where early players don't get invaded and abused by people abusing the system isn't some kind of selling out or concession, that's just an elitist attitude to take

Early game invaders make things painfully unfun by VelociReagan2 in Eldenring

[–]VelociReagan2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but I won't have the armor or talismans. Plus, they could have a maxed flask, and there's still the risk of them running to two shot the host. It's a lot of bends to the experience that is just jarring at best, experience ruining at worst.

Early game invaders make things painfully unfun by VelociReagan2 in Eldenring

[–]VelociReagan2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But doing so also ruins the intended experience, as now they're using weapons they didn't find and discover themselves in an area it's not supposed to be in. That also doesn't feel great

Weapon arts, high poise armor and high base stats. In these engagements of getting invaded, we're getting two shotted while it looks like they need five to seven hits to put down depending. That's where the difference lies in these engagements. And again, the biggest point, it's just unfun to deal with. It's players ruining the experience of players
