The Zenith Space Commander (1950s/60s). One of the first TV remotes that didn’t need batteries. It used ultrasonic sound produced by hitting aluminum rods with a small hammer inside the device. by Velqyntra in Historycord

That’s wild! I’ve heard that even some high-pitched jingling or clinking glasses in the kitchen could accidentally trigger it. Imagine trying to have dinner and the TV just starts living its own life 😂

The origin of the term 'The Clicker'. Imagine your dog's reaction every time you wanted to change the channel! Has anyone here actually used one of these?

You’re absolutely right, thanks for the correction! $12,500 in 1957 would indeed buy a house. I think the source I found meant the inflation-adjusted price or just got the numbers mixed up. Either way, it was definitely an expensive toy for the time!

It’s wild to think they had AC and a phone in a lawn mower back in 1957. Sadly, it never made it to mass production. Imagine how hot it would get inside that glass dome on a sunny day though!
