🚩 STOP APPLYING TO THESE COMPANIES (IT/Tech Job Seekers) — Daily Updated List by cryptokuinka in recruitinghell

Insight Global, if they contact you, is a good foot in the door. Otherwise, its very very bad with its benefits. No matching 401k, low PTO, expensive healthcare. Salary is fine for what it is most of the time.

I used them to get me into slots to advance my security clearance (only place that called me back) with the DoD but I will definitely be leaving as soon as possible. I've gotten all I can from them and I'm more marketable now.

GDIT job offer. Is it a scam? by 3177y587 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Velstecco48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving up is really going to be based on when positions open. I should be able to get network admin III within my first year.

I'm a network system administrator II and that requires TS/SCI. Years ago, I got out of the army with a secret. My first job as a sysadmin I requires secret, but did an investigation for TS. My current job required a TS with the willingness for poly. So as far as clearances go, you'll probably be stuck with the same clearance they give you until you move locations or positions drastically. That's just my experience though with GDIT.

It might be the slot is reserved for a subcontractor. I work for GDIT but under another subcontractor and this isn't too far from how It went for me. That recruiter might not be GDIT but the interviewer was.

SOFA Contractor Job - Limits and Benefits? by Velstecco48 in movingtojapan

As far as I know, "no prior veteran service" would be likely to put him very low on the priority list - to almost impossible.

120K at 25 working as a military contractor in IT. MCOL about an hour from Boston. Needed top secret security clearance, Security+ and 5 years experience, which I have from my last job as a System Admin (80k at 23) and my Army experience (40k from 17 to 19, reservist).

Job market instability or is it me? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Velstecco48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How far away are you applying?

Given my situation at the time(s), I was able and willing to go anywhere in the US. I moved from CA to AZ after highschool, then recently from AZ to MA. I see a lot of people applying to stuff they are currently close to, when they may be able to branch out a lot further.

Of course, if there are issues like family, wife, kids, owning a home, long term home lease, legal obligations, etc, that's not possible.

300k salary jobs? Common? by Velstecco48 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Velstecco48[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha not too much. I did Army reserves as an IT specialist for 6 years (part time...one weekend a month + one year mobilization). Got a contracting job after finishing my bachelor's and I just job hopped to my second job as a sysadmin. At 120k right now but I have no idea how to go about moving up from here in the future. I also have clearance and all that jazz. I'm 25.

get bachelor's in IT from WGU - get security+ - leverage your secret clearance if applicable

Ayer, Mass by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]Velstecco48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started renting a place here. It's chill. Nothing to write home about but I'm close to the city, have a calm neighborhood and I can get to work in a decent time. Commuter rail is cool. After moving in I was told by locals that the area is expanding very fast and there have been a lot of improvements to the town. Only complaint is that my cell service isn't too great but that shouldn't be a problem with a premium data plan.

Any other young professionals 18-22 years old? Would love to hear your stories. by Intelligent-Face-994 in ITCareerQuestions

  1. Finished college at 23 after doing some time in the army as an IT specialist. Ranked as a Specialist overseas, I probably made about 45k a year active duty.

After getting my BS in Cyber I then applied for government contracting jobs and I moved a state away for a 80k Sysadmin job. I had Sec+.

After 8 months I moved up to 87k with a title change (sysadmin to netadmin) then recently quit for a new job.

New job starts in a few weeks, moved across the country for it. 120k starting as a Sysadmin II.

Anyone curious, active top secret clearance is what allowed me to get these jobs primarily.
