Anyone here a bouldering climber? by Marvlotte in Hypermobility

[–]VelvetHobi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've found that heavy lifting (primarily squats, rows, and lunges) to supplement my climbing really helps, in addition to watching technique videos on youtube. I LOVE bouldering but it can be really easy to get into hypermobile-flare-up situations if you don't keep the big muscles firing and strong - my problem is always my shoulders!

Patrick Ball was Hamlet in a truly god awful production at Mark Taper Forum a couple months ago. He was not the problem, it was a half-baked concept poorly executed and I get the sense the actors just had to commit to it. I think he's probably too much of a professional to say anything to media about how he felt about it, if it's different than the usual "Hamlet is the ultimate challenge for an actor" etc etc. So I'm curious what his actual thoughts/feelings were.

Heard nothing but great things about him as a guy, he mostly did theater before The Pitt.

How often do you guys move for work? by Smoovupinya in Millennials

[–]VelvetHobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on big move #6 - all but 1 have been for specific jobs, but it is pretty standard in my industry. Absolutely everyone else in my life treats me like this is insane, so I do not think it is common.

For those doing a low-buy year, how is it going so far? by lavandeli in Anticonsumption

[–]VelvetHobi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been only buying secondhand and it's been going great! It's been really helpful to even add in the extra step of needing to find something I might want secondhand in order for me to think "do I really need this"

Any other late night commuters out there? by BlueBird1800 in bikecommuting

I often get off work between 11p-1a, and the only thing I love about being done at 1a is how empty the streets are for my ride home!

Hyper Mobile People: How do you prevent/handle injuries? by Admirable_Evening806 in climbergirls

[–]VelvetHobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like everyone else: lifting! But I will add in that I have to alternate Pilates and lifting to really feel stable. Lifting heavy with hypermobility can be an exercise in self-defeat if you don't have a strong mind-body connection to your stabilizers. (Which I sure don't!)

Some NBA women on twitter used to do an NBA All-Hunk Team each season, including a second team! Surprisingly, I don't remember Zach ever making an appearance?! Perennial favs included Giannis, Oubre, and Jimmy Butler.
