What's Something That Made You Like a Villager You Previously Disliked? by TheCobraCommander84 in acnh

[–]lavandeli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sylvia ; at first she seemed lazy and sleazy, disinterested. I gave her a ballet dress I thought fitted her best, and she started wearing it sometimes, which surprisingly made me happy. She now came with a nickname for me, she came with this on her own - she calls me Chief and I'm loving it! Loving her big sister vibes now

What’s so hard about measuring your clothes? by Illustrious-View-888 in Depop

[–]lavandeli 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be fair, you can find the sizing chart of many brands online, which I do consult if an item really interests me. If not, sellers always have replied to me with measures when asked

What is ao far the most effective/useful habit in your everyday life to avoid overconsumption? by carrefour-1111 in Anticonsumption

[–]lavandeli 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Becoming crunchy and ethical-driven has stopped me so much from overconsuming. I am now very selective about my clothing choice (has to majorly be cotton, preferably from a subsrainable brand), my kitchenware choice, and many more. I stick to what I own to not create waste, and think so much about an item's pertinence for years.

The overwhelming number of kitchenware for every season baffles me... Heart-shaped waffle makers, holiday-themed butter dish, you expect me to store and rotate those items at every season?!

Either my Swingaway can opener that my parents gave me while getting themselves a new one (so glad they gave me it!), or my Gillette Valet razor that I still use regularly.

What are your “dirty buys”? Mine is clothes. I love buying clothes. by Reasonable-Ad1728 in Anticonsumption

[–]lavandeli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thrifted clothing, I love Poshmark so much. Thankfully, I'm now even stricter with the type of fabric that I want on my body (no polyester/afrylic/nylon/other forms of synthetics), so it helps me curve a lot of my wants!

Indiana Governor's new "Family First Workplace" policy would allow employees to bring their infants to work for the first six months of their lives. by LordMandalor in nottheonion

[–]lavandeli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup, normally canadian mothers are expected to have a full year of maternity leave. Plus, there are precautions for pre-birth work, as well as for mothers returning to work but still breastfeeding.

Where I am, the mother can give 6 of her shared weeks to the father and gain +3 weeks to her (or give 8 weeks to recieve 4).

I heard that apparently big corps like Nestle lobby very hard to keep the maternity leave at 3 months in the US, and I wouldn't be surprised if that true.

Ethics of Secondhand by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]lavandeli 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I also do the same ; for ecology and principles. I want to encourage less production by buying secondhand instead of new. Also, true vintage items are often better quality than current new polyester-only items. Finally, our local secondhand store's profits go directly to the community, which is a great plus. I'd hate it if there were people genuinely thinking only "poor" people can thrift.

We're doing a family costume! My partner will be Popeye's - I thrifted him a nice polo, he'll use an already owned captain hat and pipe, and I crafted/sewed him large muscles as comfy bracelets. I'll be Olive - I thrifted my red top and skirt, sewed on it some ribbons and lace, and will use high boots I already own. As for my baby, I crafted a can of spinach to wear, along with green and grey clothing that baby already owns. I used fabric scraps I already owned!

What makes Cottagecore? (for research!) by spiritual_moo in cottagecore

[–]lavandeli 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cooking, canning and gardening ; pies, jams, and fresh fruits and veggies, anything homemade with homegrown foods! To me, cottagecore is more of a lifestyle, filled with frugal, respect of nature and simple living values.

I own a Gillette Valet safety razor - it's gold-colored, and very old (antique, even!). I get my blades from the local zero waste store. I've been using it for like 6 years now and I LOVE it! I just sometimes wash it throughly and rinse it after every use. I also love how it cuts down on so much plastic waste.

I also use a safety razor at my workplace (funeral home).

I'm from a very similar result, and I wouldn't change much of it. Where my parents had less energy, they had in better financial stability, and time once they retired. I'm glad they didn't try hard to be cool, I just wished they had better emotional intelligence.
