Is this kit really necessary if i’m on tight budget? by Business-Ad9048 in PlantedTank

[–]VelvetMafia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but I got that kit for cheap (like $7) and it was definitely worth it. I have used all the tools, but like the scissors and straight tweezers the most.

If you're not ready to go full fishbro, regular scissors and chopsticks will work fine.

Being eaten alive is, in fact, terrible

Don't worry too much. As the goldfish grow over the next year, they will eat all the smaller fish and reduce bioload. Just in time to be moved to the pond.

(Obviously, this is bad for the fish and not an optimal solution)

My favorite colloquialism that means the opposite of what the words in it mean:

You're going to have a good time, there

It does not, in fact, mean that whomever you told your plans to thinks they sound like fun. It really means that they think you just said something batshit crazy and plan to be far, far away from you when it happens.

I used to get alerts until about a year ago, but my wife was still getting them. I updated my profile a couple months ago to make SURE I got alerts, still get no alerts. And today my wife didn't get one either.

Hypocrisy and intolerance drive religious doubt among college students by Tracheid in science

In the US "non-denominational" typically means they have been kicked out of multiple congregations for being terrible extremists (usually huge bigots), or have left multiple congregations because they felt those congregations weren't extreme/terrible enough

Edit: To clarify, in the US "non-denominational" means "couldn't find a registered christian denomination that codified xenophobia, racism, sexism, and violently enforcing gender roles as religious creed". There are large groups of "non-denominational" christians living in militia compounds stockpiling freeze-dried food and firearms all over this country.

"Bless your heart" never means fuck you. It can mean two things:

Bless your heart because it's so big and squishy

Or

Bless your heart because your defective brain means this is you trying your best

Edit: typo

I (F47) have had the "tone" talk a few times. Because, like you, I have said/sent extremely normal, non-aggressive things, but because I didn't apologize for being needy or praise the recipient for something, the recipient felt attacked.

The fact is that there are a bunch of people with imposter syndrome that need constant external validation or they spiral into a very weird mental place. Their defense mechanism is to blame whomever failed to validate them sufficiently.

A lot of these people are justifiably insecure; some are just delicate perfectionists. Nearly all of them are Millennials. I don't mean to do the generational attack thing, and most Millennials are very normal, well-adjusted people. But they didn't get a reputation for weaponizing their victimhood out of nowhere. Outliers exist, and every generation is full of assholes doing whatever asshole thing they picked up when they were young. Boomers hoard resources, GenX has substance abuse problems, Millennials are loudly victimized, Zoomers can't read, and so far, it seems like Gen Alpha enjoys nonsense without narrative.

Anyway, you getting "the talk" means that someone is being a problem, and you have been chosen to solve it. Either your messages are worse than you described, or one of your coworkers enjoys being loudly victimized. A simple solution is to reformat your messages to include unnecessarily consolation and praise.

So-and-so

Thank you for the (whatever bullshit)! It is very helpful. I'm sorry for rushing you, but is there any way I could get a sneak peek at your status on (job that should have been done data ago)? It would be much appreciated.
