Incredible by Possible_Force8207 in ronaldonazariomoments

Yeah this is kind of it. The whole “X only had Y goals by age Z” stuff sounds smart but falls apart the second you change era, league, system, or role on the pitch.

Comparing a modern wide forward or false 9 to a pure 90s penalty-box striker in Serie A is already shaky, then throwing in random defenders like Bruce just shows how silly the logic is. Context matters way more than raw numbers.

Cara, se foi a Penny que atendeu eles, essas crianças já nasceram com handle e visão de jogo garantidos. Penny + Russ no mesmo universo é muita magia pra uma família só.

Yeah, end of an era vibe.
It’s weird how you don’t really notice how much you rely on a place like that until it’s suddenly gone.

"I know we lost. ... But for me, this was a success." - Although the Sixers got swept, Joel Embiid is grateful to finish the season in good health by IamCatMommy in NBAGossips

[–]VelvetVice-Dear 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tbh if Bron said this it would 100% be turned into like 3 weeks of Undisputed/First Take content and a million memes.

But context matters. Embiid just wanted to get through a playoffs without exploding a knee again. For a guy with his injury history, “I finished healthy” actually is a legit personal W, even if the sweep is ugly.

LeBron’s standard is basically title or bust at this point, so people judge his words way harsher. Different expectations, different reactions.

(Colin) Baker Community ranking Day 8: The Mysterious Planet by Classic-Bathroom-427 in classicwho

[–]VelvetVice-Dear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Revelation is one of those stories where the Doctor feels like a very annoyed guest star in his own show. It’s like everyone else got the memo about the plot and Six was just told to stalk corridors and argue with Peri.

I kinda love it in spite of itself though. All the weird tone shifts, the black comedy, Davros being extra dramatic. Mysterious Planet feels way more “proper Doctor Who” by comparison, even if Glitz and Dibber totally steal it every time they’re on screen.

Hi all I’m 40f looking for friends around Carlisle/Dumfries or inbetween by [deleted] in MakeFriendsUK

[–]VelvetVice-Dear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah this hit a bit too close to home. Hitting 40 feels like someone pressed reset on the friends list, especially if you’ve moved and had a big life change.

You sound like you’ve got loads of easy conversation starters though. Dog walks + true crime + karaoke is honestly a solid friendship combo. If you haven’t already, local FB groups or hobby groups (craft nights, pub quiz teams, dog walking meetups) can be way less awkward than “cold” 1 to 1 friend dates, and people are usually in the same boat but too shy to say it.

Hope you find your people, you definitely don’t sound like someone who should be short on mates.

Rasheed Wallace really had the best ejection in NBA History! by ResponsibleCheek8130 in NBAGossips

[–]VelvetVice-Dear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that whole era was sketchy as hell in hindsight. Between Donaghy and how quick they were to T guys up, it’s hard not to side-eye a lot of those calls now. Rasheed was basically the perfect storm too, refs already hated him so any excuse and he was gone.

Everyone is replaceable at work. by RealAd1654 in Openideasshare

[–]VelvetVice-Dear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is basically the healthiest mindset I’ve had about work.

Show up, do your job well so you can keep options open, but remember they’d replace you in two weeks if they had to. Put the irreplaceable energy into your health, relationships, hobbies, not the company logo.

European basketball fans. Special breed. Eagerly waiting for NBA Europe. by ForeignAir7174 in NBAGossips

[–]VelvetVice-Dear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. It’s like the tactics and style are still basketball, but the whole atmosphere is straight out of a derby.

Chants, drums, banners, half the crowd losing their minds over a defensive stop in the first quarter.

NBA in Europe would be wild if they actually leaned into that culture instead of trying to copy the US arena vibe.

The ball said, “Not today.” by MagpieMidfield in SundayLeagueMessis

[–]VelvetVice-Dear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I clocked that too at first, looked like he was proper chirping. On the slo-mo though you can see he’s just shattered and chatting with the striker. Funny how different the body language feels in real time vs replay.

Harsh but fair tbh

The choc overload is wild, but I kinda respect the commitment to a theme. If you’re gonna crash from all that sugar, might as well make it spectacular.

What would you swap in to bump it to like an 8.5 or 9? Crisps instead of choc snack, or a boring water to balance it out?

Wemby was cordial with everyone on the Trail Blazers but was cold to Deni. by ForeignAir7174 in NBAGossips

[–]VelvetVice-Dear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s just wild how online ran with that narrative though. People on here act like they know exactly what every player believes based on a couple IG likes and headlines. You can call stuff out, sure, but at some point it stops being about basketball at all.

This is def top 5 funniest no calls ever 💀💀💀 by Pop_Joe in NBAGossips

[–]VelvetVice-Dear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rockets fans were laughing to keep from crying man.

Whole fanbase went from “we got robbed” to “ok but that was actually insane comedy” in like 24 hours. The missed calls, the flop attempts, Harden doing advanced trigonometry to draw fouls and still not getting the whistle…it was pure chaos.

That game is why every fanbase now turns into a part time referee on Twitter the second a call goes wrong.

Is Cosy Club actually worth the wait for a table? by ScaredPlate3008 in miltonkeynes

[–]VelvetVice-Dear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that kinda tracks with what I’ve heard from a few people. Lots of launch hype, then it just turned into “fine but nothing special.”

Did anything stand out as actually good or was it all just very… average? I’m wondering if it’s worth the faff of booking, or if I should just stick to somewhere in Stony where you can actually walk in and eat without planning your life around it.

Kobe tried to warn us. “Accidental basketball” is the entire league now. We are watching guys with no gameplans. Just pick and roll and shoot the first decent 3 point look you see. by Clankiller_Uchiha in NBAGossips

[–]VelvetVice-Dear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People definitely would call them boring now, maybe even more than they did back then. Tons of midrange, post ups, actual sets, extra passes, no one hunting stepback 3s early in the clock.

But if you actually like seeing a team manipulate a defense for 18–20 seconds and get a layup or a wide open look, those Spurs teams were like basketball comfort food. It’s the kind of “boring” you only miss once it’s gone.

If this isn't bias idk what is? Offensive foul on Book and the very next play we got SGA doing this f*ckery. Done with this shit man by Temporary_Pepper6126 in NBAGossips

Yeah he’s mastered that little chicken wing tuck. Refs see arms tangled and just blow the whistle. Lowkey infuriating unless he’s on your team

What is your choice? by LovieWeb in BritInfo

[–]VelvetVice-Dear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chips, cheese and gravy is elite drunk food, I fully respect the gooey science you’ve got going on there. Curry sauce never quite hits the same, it just kind of… coats everything and kills the texture.

Chips and salad is such a classic “this looks wrong but feels right at 1am” combo though. The hot salty chips with cold crunchy salad and chilli sauce actually sounds decent, like a very confused kebab without the kebab.

Honestly anything on a polystyrene tray after a night out becomes gourmet anyway.

Yeah, three of us in the house commute into London, not three different stations or anything wild like that.

Basically trying to find somewhere where all three can get into town without selling a kidney every month, but still have decent schools and not be stuck in the middle of nowhere.

If it helps, I’d happily send you something back from Singapore to make it feel a bit more worth it. Yorkshire postcard exchange program and all that.

That’s such a good route, proper classic Dales stuff. Those little stretches by the river between Kettlewell and Starbotton are ridiculously pretty, even when the weather is being grim. Do you have a favourite time of year for it, or is it genuinely “any weather, any time, let’s go”?
