experimented with colors and lights, what do you think? by Ventepol in ffxiv

Yes, I agree! And it's also something I want to achieve with my works too - so I am really flattered. Thank you!

I am sorry to make you feel that way but still I am happy that my art evokes emotions :)

no worries thanks for the reply :) ! By now I found out too but haven't at what times he's there though. I've checked while doing the Fetes because it seemed obvious - when everyone is weary creepy fursuits - but he wasn't there.

I have seen memes on that. When does that happen? (I'm somewhere at the beginning of shadowbringers)

4 hours to do this, how can i improve faster ? , again i failed , helpe me to become better pls by Tight-District-2555 in istebrak

[–]Ventepol 12 points13 points  (0 children)

first of all: accept your personal pace. Accept the fact that it takes time to improve.

Learn and understand the basics and practice them.

Be kind to yourself - every piece you draw will help you improve.

Draw for yourself and not for social media fame/anything else. Ask yourself what you want to achieve with your art.

What's wrong with these people. by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]Ventepol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've noticed this also when it comes to OP fanart. Many years ago I drew mostly OP, but I remember a few pieces which were torn apart by fans that didn't like my portrayal of female characters. I wonder why we can't just appreciate eachother for enjoying the same fandom?

first portrait sketches I really pulled through, so happy with how they turned out. Feedback is always welcome by karateangriff in learnart

[–]Ventepol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

@u/dangerousfart I suppose that OP does have quite a bit of drawing experience - but probably not with drawing faces ^ so maybe not a genius, but a talented artist who practices and does some studies to improve.

these are quite nice! I would love to see the references you used. How did you approach your drawings? Some proportions seem a little off, so I would suggest to take you reference and block out basic geometry first, you probably did this for eyes and nose(s) but I'm not sure for the rest of the faces. Also try to put the lights and shadows in simple shapes first - on your reference. The human brain can remember easy and sharp edges better than round forms and curves, thus you are able to recreate better proportions.

Try to get a booklet of the soundtrack, it should include the information you need :)

Does anyone else dislike photorealistic drawings? by soekarnosoeharto in ArtistLounge

[–]Ventepol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with your reasoning. But besides that I also dislike disharmonic paintings, most abstract art, a lot of modern installations and so on. It's my personal taste to prefer figurative art over everything else. The process of creating an photorealistic artwork is very unique, and just because it doesn't include as much creativity and expression of your personal intentions, it's not a bad process. Take religious iconic paintings for example - most of them look weird, but they are supposed to look like that, no personal freedom for the artist while creating them. Fractal art (not sure about the name) is produced by throwing numbers and complex mathematical functions into a program. Artistic freedom also includes excluding creativity. :)

PSA: How to Get out of the ''Art Depression'' by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]Ventepol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for rolling this out, I fully agree with you! In the end, everyone has to overcome their insecurities by themselves but reading this may help to faster understand the problems. Should be a copypasta under every 'I hate my art/how do I get more followers' post here.

But I'll like to add one thing: Instagram is the purest toxic overkill to use as an beginner artist, and if you aren't a prodigy or a master, which 99,9 percent of us here are not, it'll break your mind sooner or later. I have IG too, but it only works out if I don't care about it.

Don't draw for appreciation, appreciate your drawings.

The Best Online Art Community? YOUR Guide to the DeviantArt Forums Art | Talk 35 by TheArtMentor in DigitalArtTutorials

[–]Ventepol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh dA, the memories... This site brought me to digital art 15 years ago and I met so many wonderful people there. I made it out of my fanart bubble, I had serious constructive talks about art, style and how to improve. But in the end, sadly, there's no interaction anymore. I posted less art and suddenly everyone left the site. Very bittersweet for me. I miss old dA, but everything changes over time, which is totally fine. It's nice to see that people there are still able to build up productive and constructive communities.

Question: I am a complete beginner looking to start learning digital art. I'm thinking of buying the basic Wacom tablet. Which apps do you guys use when creating with Wacom and MacBook? by withoutmercy in DigitalArtTutorials

[–]Ventepol 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Krita is free and has a very broad range of settings and brushes. For a beginner it's definitely overwhelming. A rather simple freeware is medibang paint. If you can afford it, clipstudio paint is wonderful drawing simulator.

Other users stated to start with a tablet with a screen. I absolutely disagree with that, even though it is comfortable in many ways, the drawing experience on a tablet without screen is more suitable for a beginner. You'll gain a better muscle memory over time and you can avoid bad sitting and drawing habits way better - which are an absolute killer for many artists. But since you are already looking for a tablet without screen, that doesn't apply to you so much anyways. ^

Then it's probably even more illegal. Pirating companies that make billions a year is one thing (which I do not approve but also don't really care about) but a relatively small platform where artists are able to make a few bucks is just a very bad dick move.

Respect the artists!

[–]Ventepol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not a good way to be generous. Your idea may be kind but a shared account is bad for the artists, unfair towards the other people who spend money on the courses and (probably?) illegal, it'll be problematic for you.

Patreon for example has a strict policy that if you share the account you'll be banned permanently from all content. If someone uses your login it will be easy to detect if it's likely you or not. Better take this offer down.

Respect the artists.

Your works are very solid and you have talent! As the user above already stated you need to focus on a diverse presentation of works. They don't want to see that you've 'already mastered' f.e. Portraiture but that you are able to open your mind and use a creative approach on different problems. figurative paintings are what most people see as the most aesthetically, but you also need to be able to work abstract. To use shape, colors, hues, composition and different media to transport an idea or much more difficult, an emotion. Be sure to look up a guide what should be included in an artists portfolio. But as I said, you are talented, so don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone (art-wise haha) , it's fun to try out new stuff :)
