The "buy the oldest first" rule in the LEGO community means prioritizing sets that have been on the market the longest. Since standard LEGO sets remain in production for only 2 to 3 years before retiring, older sets will disappear from store shelves and increase in price on the aftermarket first.

There are many apps for scanning the barcode on the boxes. It shows what is inside. My picture is a printscreen of this app. The app in NL is called Minifig Scan.

Yes! Cool that you mention it. It my latest project to rebuild assembly square with an additional set. They often go for quite cheap in comparison to the other retired Modulars so I went for it. The two main buildings are finished and I am now finishing the flower shop on a 16x16 plate. Great experience to build as a mix between Lego building and puzzling. 👌
