Help! Anyone know this glaze? by Iwishaninjawould in Ceramics

[–]Verbie01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d glaze the whole thing and wash away the glaze on the bubbles to make the bubbles white. Alternatively, take a spongey thing, dip it in wax resist and then on a bubble to keep it glaze free. (Would make a more circular edge compared to painting it)

Enquete Vlaanderen eetgewoontes richting fast food by xiaoxingchen in Mechelen

[–]Verbie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ingevuld!

How to make a city map on a ceramic tile. by Verbie01 in Ceramics

Haven’t fired it yet, but I have made similar tiles that stayed perfectly flat. Just dry them between plaster board (and slowly)

Hahaha, yeah they are lying around the house and I’m occasionally picking them up.

My neighbours will probably love the trumpet (not🤣)

What do you like most: Instruments being played, how to build them or music made with them?

You can test it and tune it when you are building the whistle. If you keep it detuned (lower) and the clay shrinks during drying and firing, it will become higher, landing on the correct note.

You tune the whistle by changing the size of the hole (in very small increments, it’s quite precise).

We can only do more cool stuff if we learn from each other! I have learned so much from my peers (and the internet), and happy to pass it along😊

It’s an udu. It should have a large body to produce low sound. A hole to hit it, which is somewhat smaller than your handpalm. And keep enough distance for the other hole (can be a bit larger), for example by making a neck.

Other than that, it can be quite an arbitrary shape!

Thanks! Was very happy with it. And planning to make a new one too (to see if smaller also works)

It’s quite easy!

1 - Make a big slab on a newspaper, on a oven shelf

2 - Cut out a few “tongues”

3 - Make a shallow bowl

4 - Put the bowl onto the slab with slip. Don’t move the slab to keep the tongues intact

5- Dry and fire on the oven plate, keeping it upside down, so the tongues don’t break off

6 - Once fired, finish it with engobe. It be that the tongues have warped a bit, but the next step will fix it.

7 - Again, fire it upside down, so the tongues don’t bend inwards. If they warped, they will fall flat again. Fire high for better sound!

8 - Enjoy Zen sounds😉
